Position Purpose

The Manufacturing Engineering Technician – Fabrication supports fabrication and weld operations by assisting in the development, documentation, and optimization of fabrication processes. This role works closely with Manufacturing Engineers, Production, Quality, Maintenance, and fabrication team members to ensure safe, repeatable, efficient, and high-quality cutting, forming, welding, and fixture-based processes. A key responsibility includes writing, updating, and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, process standards, and training documentation for fabrication operations.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities

  • Assist in the setup, calibration, troubleshooting, and improvement of fabrication equipment, tooling, fixtures, jigs, manipulators, weld cells, and associated shop-floor processes.
  • Write, revise, and maintain clear and accurate SOPs, work instructions, process sheets, and standard work for fabrication, welding, cutting, forming, and material handling processes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance fabrication efficiency, weld quality, operator safety, ergonomics, takt adherence, and overall process stability.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers, Production Leaders, Welders, Quality, Maintenance, and Technicians to identify and resolve fabrication process issues on the shop floor.
  • Conduct time studies, process audits, fixture checks, and basic capability reviews to support data-driven improvements and line balancing.
  • Train operators and welders on new or revised fabrication procedures and verify that proper documentation, tooling, and process controls are being followed.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) activities related to weld defects, fixture issues, dimensional concerns, rework, scrap, and process variation.
  • Support compliance with safety, quality, weld process, environmental, and regulatory standards, including proper use of PPE and safe working practices in fabrication areas.
  • Maintain accurate records of process changes, fixture modifications, equipment checks, training activity, trial results, and improvement actions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support manufacturing operations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Manufacturing, Welding Technology, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in a fabrication, welding, manufacturing, or heavy equipment production environment.
  • Strong technical writing skills with experience creating SOPs, standard work, training documents, or technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement tools (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, root cause analysis, and standard work).
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, basic GD&T, schematics, layouts, and technical documents.
  • Proficiency with basic hand tools, measurement instruments, welding/fabrication tooling, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work directly with welders, operators, engineers, quality personnel, and production leadership.
  • Basic computer proficiency (e.g., MS Office, document management systems, manufacturing systems, and data collection tools).

  • Must be able to work flexible schedule, including Friday - Sunday 6am -6pm
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10lbs, frequently and/or move up to 35lbs, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to perform continuous, repetitious physical activities. These activities may involve fine movements or large motions.
  • Must be able to grasp/pinch small items, reach out and up, and turn wrist.
  • Must be capable of keeping pace with current production speed.
  • Must be able to push/pull with reasonable force.
  • Must be able to perform the following requirements of bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in multiple climates including hot/cold temperatures, and dusty environment.
