Overview

Records Technicians provide essential services to internal and external customers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days year.
Special Consideration of the Position: There is no telework schedule available, Technicians work full time in office. MCSO is recruiting for positions in Corrections and Law Enforcement Records. The Corrections Records Unit is located at 1120 SW 3rd Ave, Portland, OR 97204. The Law Enforcement Records Unit is located at 234 SW Kendall Court, Troutdale, OR 97060. What is expected of an MCSO Records Technician (Please note, these duties will vary depending on work location):
- Timely and accurate entry, retrieval, confirmation and interpretation of court orders, warrants and teletypes.
- Provide information to the public, other criminal justice agencies and other employees by radio, phone and in person.
- Enter, confirm, and manage records in local and nationwide computer systems, and more.
- Code and enter files to be retrieved upon request.
- Adhere to policies and procedures.
- Able to work with multiple databases simultaneously.
- Provide support services to the Transit Police and the Cities of Fairview, Maywood Park, Troutdale, and Wood Village and all of their community members.
- Examples include arrest warrants, protection orders, and stolen vehicles/property.
- Process public records requests and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
- Electronically process MCSO law enforcement reports to include forwarding cases to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
- Work inside a jail facility or in a secure law enforcement station.
- Prepare statistical and monthly billing reports, as well as narrative incident reports.

- Have accurate data entry skills by touch.
- Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Be able to work evening, night and day shifts, weekends and holidays.
- Function effectively under pressure and manage a high volume of work.
- Be able to multi-task and handle interruptions to work flow.
- Be capable of learning and applying knowledge quickly and consistently.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Professionally interact with the public under a wide range of circumstances as a representative of the Sheriff of Multnomah County.
Please note: Working in the records units will require face-to-face contact with adults in custody (AIC). Those working in the Law Enforcement Records Unit assist a variety of community members which could include sex offenders, impaired (under the influence) individuals, victims of crimes, people who have their property seized, etc. Shift work is required for this position regardless of location.
To Qualify
We will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills as qualifying unless an item or section is labeled required. Please be clear and specific about how your background is relevant.
Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:
- One year of heavy public contact experience is required.
- At least one year of general clerical and data entry experience OR at least one year of post-high school education from an accredited college or university is required.
- Must pass a criminal records and employment references check.
Preferred Qualifications/Transferable Skills*: You do not need to have the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills to qualify. However, keep in mind we may consider some or all of the following when identifying the most qualified candidates. - Experience working in a criminal justice judicial system.
- Specialized training and/or college level course work in criminal justice or a related field.
- Advanced computer skills and proficiency in data entry.

This recruitment may be used to fill full-time, part-time, temporary, limited-duration, and on-call positions.
Salary: $28.47- $34.80 per hour
Type of Position: Hourly, overtime eligible, represented by the AFSCME Local 88 union.
Schedule: Positions are full-time (40 hours per week), staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Shifts (day, swing and graveyard) are assigned through a seniority-based system after completing a trial service period. Newly hired employees are likely to work Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and will be trained on all shifts. MCSO Record Technicians are considered essential employees during inclement weather, emergencies, pandemics and disasters. Shift work is required for this position.
Telework: This is an in-person position and teleworking is not an option.

However, actual compensation will be determined in accordance with the Oregon Equal Pay Law and will take into account factors such as the candidate's relevant experience and education. Every day, Multnomah County staff work together to serve as a safety net for our communities. During a disaster, this safety net becomes even more critical. All County employees have a role in serving the public during inclement weather, natural disaster, or other types of community emergency response. During these emergency responses, while typically there begins with a call for volunteers, county employees may ultimately be reassigned from their current position to a role in the emergency response in order to support the critical needs presented by our communities. - Pay Increases: Local 88 employees are considered for an annual step increase each year on their progression date until they reach the top of the range. They are also eligible for annual COLA increases when approved by the Board of County Commissioners.
