Compensation

The base hourly rate for this position is $29.03.

Johns Manville in Fruita, CO is currently hiring a Maintenance Mechanic to work 5:00am - 3:30pm Monday - Thursday, and every other Friday as needed. Position offers a $2,000 sign-on bonus!! Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

The hourly job classification system for the Johns Manville Facility Maintenance Mechanic role in Fruita, CO is based upon a progressive structure. Compensation ranges between $26.20 - $31.62 per hour and is based upon demonstrated skill sets. This is a skilled labor position working to install, repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment, and the following are the skill levels in natural progression. Employee must be dependable, able to follow instructions and directions, according to established operating procedures, perform the following duties while cooperating with all levels within the organization in support of the four Johns Manville core values: People, Passion, Perform and Protect:

What You Bring to the Team:

Mechanic I -

  • Support and promote safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements
  • Wear all personal protective equipment as required, including but not limited to protective shoes, glasses, ear plugs, bump cap or hard hat, gloves, dust mask or respirator
  • Must know, understand, and perform all plant and departmental safety regulations and procedures and immediately report any hazardous conditions
  • Must know and understand company policies, regulations, and procedures regarding employee conduct and attendance
  • Expected to perform duties with direct supervision as needed
  • Assist other maintenance personnel as needed
  • Troubleshoot through testing equipment and other measuring techniques.
  • Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hand and power tools
  • Adjust functional parts of equipment and control systems
  • Fabricate repair parts using shop equipment (welding equipment, cutting equipment, machine tools)
  • Maintain and test Boiler, CO2 House, Air Compressors, and plant critical systems. Maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, and cooling for process systems
  • Replace Indurator O-Rings and mold car bearings
  • Replace and/or adjust oven door cables
  • Responsible for operating in conformance with the ISO certifications held by the Fruita facility
  • Familiarity with Preventative and Predictive Maintenance
  • Responsible for execution of MRO work orders
  • Ability to effectively communicate mechanical issues when troubleshooting equipment/issues for internal customers
  • Required to respond to call-in and work the call-in requests
  • Must have own tools
  • Excellent attendance, motivation and attitude must be demonstrated to advance to the next level
  • Successfully pass Mold Changer skills test
  • Perform other duties as directed

Mechanic II -

  • Master all Mechanic I Essential Functions/Requirements
  • Expected to perform job duties independent of direct supervision
  • Understand Mold Station equipment (how it runs and how to keep it running)
  • Complete Mold changes and adjustments and adjustments to mold cores
  • Hydraulics: change hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic pumps
  • Water tank pump: when to change, how to change, rebuild tank pumps
  • Bearing placement on Hammer Mill and Cement Plant
  • Decision making on repairing vs replacing
  • Conserve resources by efficient use of equipment and supplies needed to achieve results
  • Adjust cores and understand how to operate mold state controls
  • Run tests on boiler; inspect sewer system, CO2 House, Inspect Air Compressors
  • Excellent attendance, motivation and attitude must be demonstrated to advance to the next level
  • Perform other duties as directed

Mechanic III -

  • Mechanic III has mastered all Mechanic I and II Essential Functions/Requirements. Specialized skills in specific areas (not limited to: (Mold Builder, Firetemp Mechanic, welder/fabricator)
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills
  • Responsibility and ownership in critical situations
  • Mentors and trains less experienced mechanics
  • Works independently
  • Capable of leading specialized projects
  • Executes AC&R Principles
  • Performs other duties as directed

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school (preferred) or one-year certificate from college or technical school
  • One to three years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • English proficiency and ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Ability to think critically in varying and challenging scenarios

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Mechanic job has no supervisory responsibilities

Preferred Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Certifications accepted in lieu of experience. Certificates include but not limited to:

  • Welding/Fabrication
  • Forklift Maintenance
  • Diesel Mechanic
  • Manual Machinst

Physical Demands

Work Environment

This job is in an industrial, manufacturing environment. The job requires working frequently around and with heavy machinery with moving mechanical parts, industrial ovens, and mobile equipment. The environment is not climate-controlled, and employees must be able to work in environments that may be extremely hot and humid or cold depending upon the operation and the season. Walking surfaces can be wet, dusty, and uneven. Areas of the building where work must be done have high noise levels, vibration, and/or fumes. Some working areas contain the presence of airborne particles which can irritate the skin or eyes. The manufacturing process involves toxic or caustic chemicals. Employees must wear personal protective equipment, including steel toed shoes, ear protection, eye protection in certain areas, where dust masks, respirators, or head protection are required.
