Position Summary (Primary Function)

The Fleet Services Lead is responsible for leading and supporting the Fleet Services team in daily operations, performing advanced diagnostic troubleshooting and repairs across the fleet, and coordinating preventive maintenance and repairs for all vehicles and equipment. This role ensures maintenance activities are completed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with operational needs.

Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Participate in all safety programs and training, ensuring full compliance with company safety and environmental policies.
  • Responsible for leading daily maintenance tasks, projects, and ensure completion in a timely manner with optimum reliability.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the Fleet Services team.
  • Attend and contribute to monthly departmental safety meetings and lead weekly team safety meetings.
  • Conduct Forklift/Mobile Elevating Work Platform Operator training for the Facilities department.
  • Develop weekly schedules for preventative maintenance and repairs in coordination with other departments.
  • Procure necessary parts and supplies to support maintenance activities.
  • Assist the Fleet Services Manager with contractor and vendor coordination, as needed.
  • Perform accurate diagnostics and repairs on fleet assets, including but not limited to fuel trucks, fire trucks, ground service equipment, emergency generators, heavy/light duty equipment, shuttle buses, police vehicles, and standard vehicles.
  • Become proficient in EAM Hexagon for creating/closing work orders, ordering parts, scheduling work, and performing inventory tasks.
  • Maintain clean and organized workspaces.
  • Assist with creating accurate preventive maintenance tasks and provide guidance to ensure clear expectations for the Fleet Services team.
  • Assist the Fleet Services Manager with annual budget recommendations for the team and fleet.
  • Monitor inventory levels for fuel, deicer, and storeroom supplies.
  • Lead assigned shifts during snow and ice removal operations.
  • Work independently without direct supervision in a safe and effective manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience Requirements

  • Requires at least six (6) years’ experience in automotive and equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Experience in the maintenance of aircraft cargo equipment, airport firefighting equipment and snow removal equipment a plus.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must demonstrate the desire and willingness to continue training and upgrading knowledge needed to stay abreast of changing technology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced diagnostic troubleshooting skills in electrical, hydraulic, and fuel systems.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical wiring diagrams, OEM manuals, and hydraulic schematics.
  • Strong safety mindset, including thorough understanding of proper lockout/tagout procedures for a variety of different equipment.
  • Ability to coordinate, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with airport tenants, federal and state agencies, fellow employees, subordinates, and supervisors.
  • A thorough knowledge of the equipment, tools, materials, and practices necessary for performing all aspects of automotive and equipment maintenance.
  • Must be physically able to operate various equipment, including but not limited to, backhoe, tractor, forklift and riding mowers.
  • Must be able to operate vehicles and equipment with manual or automatic transmissions.
  • Proficiency in computer applications including Office 365, SharePoint, Excel, and EAM Hexagon.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Fleet Services Team.

Licenses Required

  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain within a year of hire date, a Class B commercial driver license (CDL) with air brake endorsement.

Certifications Required

  • None.

Latitude/Independent Judgment/Accuracy

  • Diligence must be exercised when handling confidential information.
  • Reasonable care for equipment/process to prevent injury/damage.
  • Responsible for own work but must coordinate work with others.

Working Conditions

  • Physical Demand - Must be physically able to use the PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required for the job. Will be exposed to heat, cold, rain, snow and icy conditions. Noise levels may exceed 55 db. Works near moving vehicles and equipment, risk of being struck. Exposure to flammable, toxic and caustic chemicals. Exposure to heights and will be required to work from ladders and lifts. Must possess the ability to perform strenuous physical activities, engage in sustained physical exertion and perform arduous work under adverse conditions. Must maintain physical fitness pertinent to the work. Frequent bending and stooping. Ability to lift and transport objects weighing up to 55 pounds without assistance. All necessary Personal Protective Equipment will be provided by the airport.
  • Mental and/or Visual Demand - Mental and visual demands are high and vary with function performed. Consistent mental attention is needed to respond safely and efficiently. Frequent work or travel in or near roadways, parking areas, and aircraft ramp areas require constant vigilance of vehicle, aircraft and equipment traffic.
  • Attentiveness to work procedures will reduce potential risk of injury in work areas.
  • Exposed to shop office environment and normal aviation environment.
  • This position requires uncommon tours of duty to include but not limited to weekends and holidays, rotating shift assignments and overtime duty.
  • Will be subject to recall after normal duty hours.

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to complete and pass a background investigation, drug screening, and physical examination as per Federal, State, and GSP Airport District requirements.
