All Coastal Health District County Health Department employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event not limited to but including, staffing a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or Point of Dispensing site (POD). When you are called on to participate, you are expected and it will be a part of your job requirement to participate, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.
Job Responsibilities
Supervises, guides, and/or instructs the work assignments of subordinate staff. Performs administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of the physician on duty. Handles front office duties which include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing and coding for insurance purposes. Assists in the clinic by taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination and drawing blood.
Job Responsibility 1: Works as member of the health care team. Description: Prepares patient for provider visit by documenting chief complaint (reason for visit), Vital Signs, pulse oximetry and height and weight in VHN. Performs ECG’s when ordered. Assists providers with physical examinations. Keeps exam rooms clean and stocked. Maintains adequate medical supply inventory and notifies nurse when time to order. Assists provider with patient face to face inquiries or telephone calls for follow up care. Schedules patient appointments, follows up on missed appointments. Performs medication pick up as directed by provider. Completes all required Annual training per District Protocol.
Job Responsibility 2: Laboratory Services. Description: Collects venipuncture samples per HIV protocol and provider plan of care. Collects hemoglobin and/or glucose finger sticks as ordered. Performs basic laboratory tests on site. Collects urine specimens for gonorrhea, chlamydia, pregnancy tests, and routine urinalysis. Sends specimens to correct laboratory for processing. Orders lab correctly through VHN. Assists coworkers in assuring all in house lab results are placed in patient VHN record same working day screened by provider. required Laboratory Proficiency testing as required by Laboratory SOP.
Job Responsibility 3: Medical Records- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keep patient care confidential. Completes Release of Information with patient consent. Scans all patient medical information in VHN when asked. Completes HIPAA training annually. Signs Care Center HIV confidentiality agreement annually.
Job Responsibility 4: Practice Infection Control. Description: Performs hand washing before and after all patient contact. Use Personal Protective Equipment appropriately. Follows universal precautions and aseptic technique/guidelines. Maintains a clean working environment. Cleans and stocks exam rooms. Keeps Lab room clean and stocked. Disinfects exam tables after each patient exam. Performs and document in house lab equipment diagnostic quality assurance consistent with laboratory SOP. Completes Bloodborne Pathogen training yearly.
Job Responsibility 5: Functions as a clinic supervisor and Provider Support Expert for MD/FNP in HIV clinic. Supervises CMAs and Hire Dynamic temp staff. Supervises and plans work of assigned staff. Performs duties as needed to cover scheduled and unscheduled leave to ensure full-service delivery and to facilitate optimal provider/patient visit flow. Performs and documents staff orientation, continuing education and annual performance reviews. Utilizes strategies that foster teamwork and focus on individual staff strengths and preferences. Maintains inventory of medical supplies. Works with nurse manager on clinical and lab SOPs to meet HRSA deliverables. Performs lab quality controls on in-house labs.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university with three (3) years experience in a related field; or High School diploma/GED and four (4) years of experience in medical assisting; or Two (2) years of experience required at the lower level Medical Assistant 3 (HCT102) or position equivalent.
