Job Summary

The Part-Time Head Basketball Coach is responsible for leading all aspects of the college's intramural basketball program, including student-athlete development, recruitment, practice and game management, and program operations. In addition to coaching responsibilities, this position supports student success and institutional operations through campus engagement activities, event support, proctoring services, and other student-facing responsibilities during non-competitive periods.

The coach is expected to foster a positive student-athlete experience that emphasizes academic achievement, personal growth, sportsmanship, and community engagement.

Job Duties:

- Plan, organize, and supervise all aspects of the basketball program.
- Conduct practices, conditioning sessions, team meetings, and skill development activities.
- Coach and supervise student-athletes during games and team travel.
- Develop strategies and training plans to support competitive success and student-athlete development.
- Promote sportsmanship, professionalism, and adherence to institutional and athletic association standards.
- Monitor student-athlete academic progress and encourage academic success and retention.
- Maintain knowledge of and comply with all applicable eligibility regulations.
- Recruit prospective student-athletes aligned with the college’s academic and athletic mission.
- Support student-athletes through regular communication, mentoring, and referrals to campus resources when appropriate.
- Encourage student engagement and persistence through ongoing support and accountability.
- Connect with the employees of the college to foster meaningful engagement

Minimum Qualifications:

- Associate degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Previous coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, club, or community level.
- Demonstrated knowledge of basketball fundamentals, player development, and team management.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of populations: students, faculty, and staff
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet institutional driving requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Collegiate playing or coaching experience.
- Experience recruiting student-athletes.
- Experience working in higher education or with college-age students.
- Familiarity with student support, mentoring, or retention practices.
- CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
