Job Summary
Assist the Rock Valley College community in supporting the student counseling center in accordance with the guidelines provided in the Mental Health Early Action on Campus Act, which provides programming that is responsive to student needs and enhances student development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related duties may be assigned.
1. Learn about health and wellness topics and be a positive resource for other students.
2. Promote and market of upcoming events and seminars (Tabling at various locations on campus).
3. Create materials and displays for Wellness Tips and Healthy Marketing (i.e. midterm/finals stress, suicide hotlines, domestic centers, study habits, time management, etc.).
4. Produce monthly student health and wellness material via daily news, social media, classroom pop-ins, etc.
5. Participate in mental health screening events, counseling center information tables, Wellness Wednesday, and Meet the Counselor events
6. Present to different student groups upon request for pop-ins (i.e. psychology, sociology, nursing, student development, health classes, etc.)
7. Answer questions about mental illness with information from relevant scientific sources
8. Offer services through drop-in immediate support and the ability to book appointments.
9. Develop and execute outreach programs and presentations that will:
o Raise awareness regarding college mental health issues.
o Provide education and resources related to psychological and emotional well-being.
o Promote healthy lifestyle behaviors and responsible health habits.
o Promote education regarding the use and distribution of safe sex health and strategies.
o Increase awareness among students about services available to them.
10. Stay apprised of current legal and ethical issues in counseling and higher education.
11. Regular attendance is expected.
12. Using tact and courtesy, the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course of work.

Requirements
1. Commit to contributing to creating a culture of health and wellness at Rock Valley College
2. Attend and participate in weekly team meetings with the Personal and Success Counselors
3. Represent the Wellness Advocate peer mentoring program and RVC Personal and Success Counseling in a professional manner
4. Enrolled as a student at Rock Valley College or show evidence of enrollment at a 4- year institution
5. Have a 2.5 GPA or better
6. Confidentiality is a must
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
8. Experience in counseling within a college or university counseling center setting is preferred.
9. Experience in community college education is desirable.
10. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse students, faculty, and staff is necessary.
11. Basic computer skills in word processing, database management, and Internet usage also required.

High School Diploma and enrolled in a college or university. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
