This position delivers formal and informal instruction, system operation training, troubleshooting guidance, and curriculum management support primarily for the MK 34 Gun Weapon System. The instructor ensures fleet students achieve required proficiency levels in accordance with Navy training standards and shipboard operational requirements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver classroom, laboratory, and shipboard instruction on the MK 34 Gun Weapon System, including system operation, maintenance, alignment, troubleshooting, and employment.
- Conduct pier‑side and onboard training evolutions aboard cruisers and destroyers at Naval Base San Diego and other fleet concentration areas.
- Maintain and update lesson plans, training materials, and student assessments in accordance with Navy curriculum management processes.
- Provide subject‑matter expertise to support curriculum reviews, training effectiveness evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all instruction aligns with Navy training standards, safety protocols, and operational requirements.
- Assist ship's force personnel in developing system proficiency and readiness for inspections, certifications, and operational tasking.
- Prepare training reports, student evaluations, and documentation as required by the customer and program leadership.
- Other relevant duties as assigned.
- Former U.S. Navy Fire Controlman (FC) with documented experience operating and maintaining the MK 34 Gun Weapon System.
- Minimum of 2 years hands‑on experience with the MK 34 GWS aboard a U.S. Navy cruiser or destroyer.
- Minimum of 2 years instructor experience, to include formal classroom instruction, shipboard training, or Navy schoolhouse teaching.
- Demonstrated proficiency in system operation, maintenance procedures, fault isolation, and tactical employment of the MK 34.
- Prior service as a Work Center Supervisor, Leading Petty Officer, or Leading Chief Petty Officer in a Fire Control division.
- Current or prior Navy Master Training Specialist (MTS) qualification. Proficient in computer applications such as Windows and MS Office
- Experience supporting AEGIS or Surface Warfare training commands.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to instruct diverse groups of sailors with varying experience levels.
- Experience with Navy curriculum development or curriculum management processes (e.g., NAVEDTRA standards).
- Primary work conducted at Naval Base San Diego and associated training facilities.
- Frequent shipboard environments, including ladders, confined spaces, and operational equipment areas.
- Travel as needed to support fleet training requirements (estimated 25–40%).
- May require occasional travel for up to three weeks at a time (or longer).
- A Secret Clearance is required for this position.
