POSITION SUMMARY

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs diagnostic testing according to established departmental procedures, ensuring the delivery of quality patient care.

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs diagnostic testing as directed by the physician at a competent technical level not requiring constant supervision. This position operates diagnostic equipment, including peripheral equipment, in a safe and efficient manner to obtain optimal test results. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist manages the patient during the diagnostic procedure to meet patient care standards. This position ensures supplies are maintained and reports problems with equipment to the appropriate staff member.

This position actively participates in and supports student clinical education activities where applicable.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Demonstrates the ability to perform the department specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, potential injury, and hazardous substances, including electromagnetic radiation. Position requires the ability to stand a majority of the time; and requires the ability to sit in front of a CRT monitor much of the time. Position requires extensive pushing, pulling and lifting of patients and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

UNIT

POPULATION SERVED:

Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) serviced:


Nuclear Medicine Cardiac/cardiovascular, renal, skeletal, pulmonary conditions and diseases including but not limited to: CAD, PE, cholecystitis, oncology, etc.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

This position reports to the Radiology Manager. This position takes direction from the Nuclear Medicine Supervisor

Qualifications

LICENSE: NMTCB or ARRT is required for Nuclear Medicine. Licensed by The State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental Protection.

EXPERIENCE: Candidates must possess ability to multitask, with attention to fine detail in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire. NJDEP State License expires every two years and must be renewed biennially to work. ARRT expires on incumbent's date of birth and must be renewed annually to work, if applicable. NMTCB license must be current to work.


SPECIALITY EXPERIENCE CERTIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS
Nuclear Medicine

Graduate of a nuclear medicine technology program required.

1 yr. diagnostic testing experience preferred.

BLS for Healthcare Providers required.

Licensed by the State of NJ, Department of Environmental Protection

Registered as a Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board or American Registry of Radiology Technologist.
