Description:

This role contributes to NFPA’s Mission, Vision, and Strategic initiatives by supporting the day-to-day operation of the legal department and enhances attorney effectiveness. Also provides certain support functions for the Office of the President and Board of Directors.


PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES


Subject to the general direction of the General Counsel, the person in this role will have the following responsibilities:

  • Organize and maintain documents and records in electronic filing systems; may include trademark registration and control; copyright permissions processing; contract storing and management; managing correspondence; creating, organizing and maintaining databases, official records, and other reference materials and generating reports.
  • Perform basic legal research on relevant laws, regulations and legal articles.
  • Draft, edit, proofread, and provide other support functions in connection with the preparation, delivery and storage of contracts and contract templates, correspondence, memoranda, and other legal documents.
  • Assist with the management of litigation including coordinating document production and preparing correspondence.
  • Support communications efforts of legal department within organization including by maintaining legal page on intranet. Interface with staff and others inside and outside of the organization to respond to inquiries.
  • Handle general administration, record-keeping and information management functions of the Legal Department including coordinating meetings and travel arrangements and preparing expense reports Coordinate and manage information for insurance purposes.
  • Coordinate and manage information for insurance purposes.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of the Legal Department and confidential information.
  • Support Board of Directors through posting of meeting materials, support Board App, process Board expense reports, coordinate committee meetings, administer polls, and draft and Board communications.
  • Provide back-up phone answering and other support functions, as needed, for the Office of the President.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team.
  • Strong proofreading, editing and general document preparation skills.
  • Ability to manage projects.
  • Creative and flexible.
  • Strong computer skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint, familiarity with mobile Apple devices.
  • Ability to learn and follow procedures and work closely with legal, technical and support staff.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree / Paralegal Certificate and at least 5 years of business/office experience including prior legal experience.

Range: $71,596.00 - $118,161.00
