Job Summary

The Emergency Room Registration Manager is responsible for the effective leadership and daily operational management of patient registration services across two Emergency Departments (EDs) and an Emergency Psychiatric (EmPATH) clinic. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered administrative services that support timely and accurate registration, insurance verification, and compliance with all hospital policies and regulatory standards.



The manager will oversee a team of registration staff, providing training, performance feedback, and guidance to ensure exceptional service delivery in fast-paced, high-stress environments. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a thorough understanding of emergency room workflows and behavioral health processes. This position collaborates closely with clinical, security, IT, and revenue cycle teams to optimize patient flow, reduce wait times, and maintain data integrity throughout the registration process.



Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Healthcare Knowledge: Familiarity with medical terminology, insurance processes, and healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA).

Customer Service: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients and healthcare staff professionally and empathetically.

Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, ensuring smooth patient flow and accurate data entry.

Attention to Detail: Ensuring accurate patient information collection, insurance verification, and data entry to prevent errors.

Leadership: Supervisory experience, including training and managing staff, setting performance standards, and fostering a collaborative team environment.

Problem-Solving: Ability to address and resolve patient concerns, billing issues, or registration discrepancies.

Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, scheduling software, and patient management platforms.

Compliance and Privacy: Understanding of regulatory requirements and best practices for patient confidentiality and data security.

Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and manage high volumes of patient registrations, ensuring efficiency without compromising quality.

Conflict Resolution: Addressing and managing patient complaints or issues regarding the registration process effectively.

Preferred Education/Experience

Progressive leadership experience in patient registration, access services, or revenue cycle operations within an Emergency Department or similarly high-acuity healthcare setting.

Demonstrated experience managing staff in a fast-paced, 24/7 healthcare environment, with a strong focus on employee training, performance management, and service excellence.

Working knowledge of emergency department workflows, patient throughput strategies.

Proven expertise in insurance verification, patient access protocols, and compliance with regulatory standards including HIPAA and EMTALA.

Strong collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams including clinical, IT, security, and revenue cycle departments.

Proficiency with hospital registration systems and electronic health records (e.g., Epic, Cerner).

Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to remain composed and effective under pressure.
