Physical Requirements

Sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods and performing data entry tasks with repetitive motions, and frequently standing or walking with objects weighing up to 10 lbs.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Director, PFE Patient Advocate Manager, and Patient Advocate Supervisor, a Patient Financial Services Representative’s main responsibilities include customer service, department-specific tasks, administrative duties, communication skills, assisting patients with applying for State and Federal assistance programs at the bedside or clinical setting, Medicaid and disability; explaining benefits and answering questions regarding bills for hospital and physician services as well as accurate documentation. The duties of the Representative also include following the direct supervisor’s directives, ensuring patients receive superior service through quality work, and ultimately contributing to the successful resolution of patient accounts. This Representative must fully understand and follow departmental policies and procedures. This position is not subject to working at home.



Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

The ideal candidate will be customer service oriented; possess in-depth HIPAA knowledge; have the ability to multi-task with a strong emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail; be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel; have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal); have solid time management, critical thinking, follow-through, and planning and organizational skills; and have a high level of respect for confidentiality. Must have ability to screen patients at bedside and be exposed to sights and sounds of a hospital setting.

Preferred Education/Experience

Associate degree: Patient advocacy in healthcare including but not limited to screening patients for Medicaid, SSI, SSDI, Disability and financial assistance programs. Medical office, clerical work, working directly with patients and financial responsibilities. Experience in HIPAA is highly preferred.
