Position Description

Provide inspection, testing services, and documentation for paving projects. Develop and maintain relationships with key customers, facility managers, DOT personnel, State, County, and Municipal personnel. The Quality Control Technician is responsible for compaction testing of asphalt mixtures and making any necessary adjustments to the compaction process to ensure compliance for all applications and projects.


Essential Functions:

  1. Use accepted methods to inspect and test compaction of asphalt or other materials for the purpose of quality control.
  2. Test compaction of mixtures to stay in compliance with contract specifications and quality control tolerance.
  3. Monitor and test process functions and materials daily to ensure our products meet or exceed requirements of the appropriate agency or customer.
  4. Communicating test results with paving crew and project decision makers in a timely manner.
  5. Prepare and record accurate information; documentation of on-site observations and test results.
  6. Obtain required certifications in a timely manner.
  7. Maintain all testing equipment, keeping track of all certification/calibration paperwork on testing equipment to ensure that these requirements are met.
  8. Follow quality control plans and guidelines as assigned.
  9. Follow directions of manager as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific duty.
  10. Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task. Report any potential safety issues.
  11. Follow all company policies and OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures.
  12. Perform general cleaning of work areas.
  13. Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
  14. Other duties as may be assigned.


Position Requirements

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  3. Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  4. Will be required to pass a physical and drug screen.
  5. A technical background is preferred with strong communication, organizational, mathematical and computer skills.
  6. A technical degree is a plus.
  7. NETTCP paving inspector certification preferred.
  8. If not currently certified, obtaining certification is required and the company will cover the costs of the hired QC Technician to become certified.
  9. Two years of related experience is preferred.
  10. Must be able to comprehend MSDS sheets, DOT specifications, policy guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  11. Must have or acquire basic computer skills and be able to work with e-mail and simple spreadsheets.
  12. Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams as both a leader and a participant.
  13. Effective interpersonal and communication skills.


Work Conditions

  1. Able to work in all weather conditions.
  2. Able to work extended hours if needed.
  3. Able to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time.
  4. Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  5. Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
