Job Synopsis

This position is one of two peacebuilding program lead positions in MCC’s planning, learning and disaster response department (PLDR). The two peacebuilding leads work collaboratively on all dimensions of the department’s resourcing, training, and research into MCC-supported peacebuilding work. The peacebuilding leads resource and support MCC staff and partners globally in the development of MCC’s peacebuilding program by supporting project development, reviewing proposals and reports, providing training and resourcing in planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting (PMER), and assisting with monitoring and evaluation of peacebuilding programming. Together with MCC’s regional area directors, the peacebuilding leads review all peacebuilding projects in MCC’s international program and approve internal grant funding to partners for peacebuilding projects. They help convene and support virtual platforms for fostering learning about peacebuilding across all MCC programs. These positions lead research into MCC’s peacebuilding work in order to capture and share learnings and to strengthen these efforts. The peacebuilding leads also provide sectoral understanding for communications and donor relations regarding peacebuilding programs.

Essential:
  • Bachelors degree
  • 3-5 years of intercultural experience.
  • 3-5 years of work experience in peacebuilding work, including outcomes-based planning for, monitoring and evaluation of, and reporting on peacebuilding programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of the peacebuilding field.
  • Robust analytical and research skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including excellent intercultural communication skills.
  • Experience organizing and leading trainings and workshops, including virtually.
  • Strong facilitation skills, including facilitation of virtual meetings.
  • Ability to maintain and foster strong relationship via email and other virtual means of communication.

Employment eligibility: Candidate must be legally authorized to work in one of the listed location countries (ie Canada or United States), at the time of hire. MCC will not assist with applications for work authorization for this position. MCC offers of employment are subject to a successful criminal background check(s).

Preferred:
  • Master’s degree in peacebuilding or related field.
  • Ability to communicate in one or more languages other than English. Spanish or French ability desirable.
  • Extensive work experience outside one’s passport country.

Key Responsibilities

Specific Tasks and Duties

Major responsibilities
• 40% Review all peacebuilding project proposals and reporting, and approve MCC internal grant funding to partners
• 25% Resource MCC program and partner staff in peacebuilding best practices and PMER, including PLDR training efforts
• 25% Conduct and support research into the impact of and learnings from MCC-supported peacebuilding efforts
• 10% Support Communications and Donor Relations initiatives related to peacebuilding program staff
• Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis

Tasks
1. In coordination with the other PLDR peacebuilding program lead, review all projects in the international program peacebuilding sector. In MCC’s international program, all MCC projects are reviewed and approved by area directors and the relevant PLDR sector lead. This review and approval process includes constructive engagement with country program staff and occasionally with partners. A PLDR peacebuilding lead may be brought in to review additional projects with conflict sensitivity or peacebuilding components as needed.
2. In coordination with the other PLDR peacebuilding lead, review peacebuilding project reporting and discuss with country program staff on an ongoing basis.
3. Proactively offer review support for peacebuilding work in Canada and the U.S.
4. Conduct and support original research into the impact of and learnings from MCC-supported peacebuilding efforts.
5. Resource MCC programs in best practices from the peacebuilding sector through a variety of virtual and in-person learning events, communities of practice, and the development of learning tools and materials aligned with MCC peacebuilding priorities as well as program needs.
6. Support PLDR’s ongoing training and resourcing goals for stronger PMER, safeguarding, and outcomes-based project management, which may include facilitating various online and in-person training workshops and initiatives, leading/supporting working groups and developing other supplemental resources.
7. Lead and participate in various MCC working groups and standing committees as needed, including the integrated peacebuilding working group.
8. Support communications, donor relations, advocacy, and fundraising/grant writing initiatives related to peacebuilding programming.
9. Be available to travel to support programs with peacebuilding and PMER needs, including training and other resourcing.
10. Occasional networking and engagement with peacebuilding organizations and actors outside MCC.
11. Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis.

Supervision: No direct supervision.

Travel expectations: 31-40 nights away/year for travel in Canada, the U.S., and internationally

Salary Details

Base salary: $60,751.37. Starting salary may be adjusted up to $67,501.53 USD based on previous experience. This salary range applies to US applicants only. Recruiter can provide salary ranges for Canada.
