As a Public Health Registered Nursewithin the Cherokee County Health Departmentat the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting the lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.
Location: Cherokee County Health Department in Canton, GA.Job Responsibilities
Under supervision, provides professional nursing care in accordance with nurse protocols, policies and/or procedures within but not limited to areas of TB, STD's, infectious disease, immunizations, family planning, women's health, and children's health at the Cherokee County Health Department.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Functions as an expanded role nurse providing patient care consistent with the patient's level of need.
- Focuses on the prevention of illness, injury, disability, and the promotion and maintenance of the health of the population.
- Serves as a patient advocate and refers patients to community partners or private physicians, when indicated.
- Utilizes an electronic medical record program to accurately document patient care and enter billing information for reimbursement.
- Administers and dispenses medications and/or vaccines based on nursing assessments and according to established nursing protocols.
- Provides education to clients, families, and community partners.
- Incorporates strategies for interacting with persons from diverse backgrounds (e.g., cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, professional, religious affiliation, mental capabilities, and physical capabilities).
- Prepares to respond to public health emergencies as directed.
- Uses individual, team, and organizational learning opportunities for personal and professional development.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university AND completion of a PHN course within one year of hire AND current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license AND CPR certification. Note: No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior public health experience in a health department setting.

Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.
CBH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered.
All positions require criminal history record check. Required education credentials, license, certification and/or registration must be submitted prior to employment in the position. Some positions require pre-employment drug testing in which the applicant who is offered the position will be required to successfully complete.
