Oregon State Hospital, a Joint Commission and CMS certified public psychiatric hospital, provides psychiatric hospital services and patient treatment services to persons committed by the Oregon courts as part of the state mental health system.
The Oregon State Hospital Salem Campus is a 610-bed facility supported by approximately 2,000 staff, the Oregon State Hospital Junction City Campus is a 174-bed facility supported by approximately 360 staff and Pendleton Cottage is a residential treatment facility that has capacity of 15 residents supported by 42 staff.
The Pharmacist is the key professional and functional position within the Pharmacy Department. Pharmacists must supervise all work performed by pharmacy technicians and must ensure safe and appropriate distribution of medications to patient care areas. The pharmacist also promotes safe and optimal medication utilization and is an important resource for other healthcare professionals. It is the responsibility of the pharmacist to provide these and other essential services in accordance with applicable Federal and State Laws, and Joint Commission accreditation standards.
The Pharmacist in this position:
Provides professional supervision of pharmacy technicians. Directs, monitors, prioritizes, oversees, verifies, and performs, when needed, individual activities as it relates to day-to-day pharmacy operations, including, but not limited to: medication restock batch processing, patient-specific replenishments, new order processing and fulfillment, pass/discharge prescription preparation, drug repackaging activities, purchasing and inventory functions, and compliance/audit functions.
Performs data entry of medication orders into electronic health record systems. Appropriately screens and manages both inpatient and outpatient medication orders while performing and appropriately documenting clinical functions including, but not limited to: · Prospective review of medication orders, with screening of practitioner orders against the existing patient profile for potential allergies, drug interactions, polypharmacy concerns, inappropriate medication utilization, or other issues.
Reviews and monitors new orders for appropriateness with respect to antibiotic stewardship, anticoagulation management, clozapine management, and medication management policy provisions
Processing of limited intravenous drug orders and other special situations as may arise. Works with practitioners to optimize OSH drug formulary adherence and appropriately manage non-formulary requests. Provides medication information to practitioners, nursing staff, or patients.
*Pharmacists are required to rotate on-call responsibilities for Salem and Junction City facilities and may be deployed to either facility as the need arises.

Minimum Qualifications
A current Pharmacist's license issued by the Oregon State Board of Pharmacy.
