Full Time

SUMMARY:

The full-time Lab Assistant reports to the Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice for the School of Pharmacy. This position is responsible for providing guidance and direction necessary to achieve pre-established course objectives under the direction of the coordinator(s) of the Integrated Pharmacy Skills Laboratory. The Lab Assistant may also assist in the use and maintenance of laboratory facilities and equipment, depending upon the designated program/course.

KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

  • Facilitate and reinforce class syllabus goals, objectives, and daily lesson plans.
  • Assist in classroom/laboratory delivery and be prepared with instructional materials per lesson plans before each class.
  • Assist in the assessment of students and maintenance of accurate laboratory and student records in assigned classes.
  • Assist in the assessment and evaluation of students on a regular basis using appropriate evaluation tools and materials and report to the instructor.
  • Assist in the upkeep of the laboratory environment and equipment and the appropriate disposal of lab waste.
  • Assist in the demonstration of proper lab techniques.
  • Assist in the acquisition and maintenance of necessary lab inventory.
  • Provide input and review of textbooks, references, and classroom assessment materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate's degree in biological or life sciences or a minimum of three years of pharmacy work experience
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • General knowledge of pharmacy practice.
  • Certified pharmacy technician preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with students, peers, and colleagues.
  • Proficient organization, prioritization, and teaching skills.
  • Strong computer literacy skills with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to interact effectively as a leader or as a member of a team and work collaboratively with other departments.
  • Ability to listen to stakeholders (e.g., students, staff, faculty, etc.) and to understand and respond positively to requests.
