Required License/Registration/Certification
Nationally certified Pharmacy Technician by either PTCB (PTCE) or NHA (ExCPT); Registered with the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of hire.
Physical Requirements
This position requires use of a computer workstation, completion of tasks with repetitive motions, and occasional pushing, pulling, and/or lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds. This position may require personnel to wear personal protective equipment to reduce risk of exposure to work-related hazards (e.g. handling of hazardous medications).
Shift
Shift is a rotating shift currently working between the hours of 7:00am and 5:00pm Monday through Friday. Hours, rotation schedule, and operating days of the week may change based on the needs of the department. Position participates in holiday rotation shift with other Ambulatory Pharmacy Services.
Job Summary
This position will provide a variety of specialty pharmacy services including obtaining prior authorizations, enrolling patients’ in financial support programs, and coordinating first time dispenses and refills for specialty medications prescribed within UK HealthCare. You will work closely with nurses, physicians, and UK Specialty Pharmacy staff to improve access to medications for a variety of sub specialty disease states. Effective 4/1/09, the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy requires all pharmacy technicians to be registered with the state and pay a $25 fee within 30 days of hire. This registration must be renewed annually. Primary focus is to follow URAC standards not limited to but including PHARM Core, Patient Management, and Operations. Follow scope of standards and polices of Specialty Pharmacy Services in relation to at minimum dispensing, procurement, mail order shipping, cold chain distribution, storage, and supply management. Person is responsible for following appropriate shipping requirements, providing quality measures testing of cold chain packaging, monitoring complaints regarding shipping errors, turnaround times, and tracking of products after leaving facility, if available. The Specialty inventory tech is responsible for placing orders daily for all products via multiple systems (Cardinal Order Express, SAP, or phone). They are responsible for maintaining proper storage requirements of medications, accountability, and security of inventory per URAC standards. They are also responsible for returning product as necessary to vendors as well as monitoring and reporting any discrepancies. Also, they will assist the Manager, Pharmacy Supply Chain with the pharmaceutical recall process. The Specialty inventory tech is responsible for maintaining a good relationship with vendors and drug representatives and also responsible for maintaining backorders with multiple vendors and systems.
