Required License/Registration/Certification

Nationally certified Pharmacy Technician by either PTCB (PTCE) or NHA (ExCPT); Registered with the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of hire.

Physical Requirements

This position requires use of a computer workstation, completion of tasks with repetitive motions, and occasional pushing, pulling, and/or lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds. This position may require personnel to wear personal protective equipment to reduce risk of exposure to work-related hazards (e.g. handling of hazardous medications).

Shift

Primarily 8:00 am-4:30 pm; hours/shift are subject to change based on departmental needs.

Job Summary

The Department of Pharmacy Services is currently seeking a Pharmacy Senior Tech I specialist to provide standardization, quality, expertise and customer service focus for the Markey Access and Innovation Center (MAIC). The Pharmacy Senior Tech I will report to the MAIC Pharmacy Coordinator and will have frequent contact with customers/patients, faculty, physicians, and University personnel. This position will work with third party payers and providers to ensure payment of oncology medications prior to administration of those medications. Duties for this position include confirming all necessary information needed to properly perform and identify billing information needed to maintain compliance with institutional, state and federal practices.This position will work with third party payers and providers while obtaining and sharing current guidelines. Basic coding knowledge and proficiency in medical terminology is recommended, and excellent customer service skills are required. Primary responsibilities will include obtaining precertification and preauthorization of oncology medication requests by medical providers as well as working with medical providers to find suitable alternatives to medications that do not meet pre-certification or pre-authorization requirements. This position will require the ability to sit for long periods of time and work in a fast-paced environment. The qualified individual must enjoy working in a team-oriented environment and be able to communicate with a diverse patient/customer population.
