Job Summary
- The Pharmacy Technician II supports the efficient operation of the pharmacy department by preparing and dispensing medications, managing inventory, and providing guidance to less experienced technicians
- This role functions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and may include responsibilities for controlled substances, billing, and precepting new staff
Essential Functions
- Refills and maintains automated dispensing systems
- Prepares and fills medication orders, including controlled substances, under pharmacist supervision
- Supports medication billing, charges, and inventory records
- Prepares prepackaged and bulk medications with correct labeling
- Oversees restocking and maintenance of pharmaceuticals in compliance with standards
- Assists in training and competency assessments of new or junior technicians
- Participates in quality assurance and process improvement activities
- Responds to inventory and regulatory documentation requirements
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
- Strong knowledge of pharmacy operations, medication safety, and regulatory compliance
- Effective communication and precepting skills
- Competency in pharmacy technology and software systems
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in handling hazardous medications and adherence to safety protocols
- Commitment to teamwork, continuous improvement, and customer service excellence
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree preferred
Licenses/Certifications
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) typically within 60 days of hire or
- Current enrollment in a PharmD program
- Pharmacy Technician registration required per state law or facility policy
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a pharmacy technician or currently enrolled in a PharmD program
