Job Summary
The University of Kentucky (UK) College of Medicine Department of Pediatrics is seeking a physician faculty member to serve as the Executive Vice Chair and Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs. In addition to fulfilling the responsibilities of a full-time faculty member, the individual will be a key member of the Chair’s executive administrative team, serving as an operations leader and expert within the Department, as well as a deputy to the Chair. At the enterprise level, this Vice Chair will emerge as a valued spokesperson and partner in further defining and implementing the vision for improving the health of Kentucky’s children.
JOB SUMMARY
• Facilitate, coordinate, support and oversee all departmental clinical activities to promote recognition locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally; develop and monitor relevant metrics to gauge success
• Define clinical priorities and metrics to which department success will be measured. Review data and use it to identify opportunities for improvement
• Responsible for improving patient care while enhancing efficiency, patient experience, and safety. Work with other leaders and peers to advance standard care processes.
• Serve as deputy to the Department Chair, exercising authority when the Chair deems necessary, to ensure uninterrupted departmental leadership and decision-making
• Provide day-to-day operational oversight of a large, complex pediatric department, including clinical operations, education, research, and administrative functions.
• Partner with the Chair to develop and execute the department’s strategic plan, aligning departmental priorities with the College of Medicine, health system, and university missions.
• Oversee clinical department performance, including quality, safety, access, productivity, and financial sustainability across pediatric divisions and practice sites.
• Help guide the budget development for the Department
• Collaborate with Department leadership and institutional advancement teams to identify funding priorities that align clinical, research, and educational goals.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and institutional policies, including ACGME, LCME, hospital, and university requirements.
• Serve as a key liaison between the department and UKHC leadership and affiliated clinical partners as delegated by the Chair.
• Leadership and oversight of clinical programs to ensure high-quality, safe patient care
• Represent the department in college, health system, and national pediatric organizations, as delegated by the Chair.
• Provide leadership during periods of organizational change, growth, or crisis, ensuring stability and continuity of operations.
