Howmet Aerospace is currently looking for a Metallurgist to join our Alloy Facility located in Dover, New Jersey.

The position will apply knowledge of metallurgy and behavior of materials to support manufacture of Ni- and Co- based superalloy master heats produced by Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) and Air Induction Melting (AIM) processes..
Anticipated Pay Range: $90k-$100k per year. *Pay rates within this range are determined based on various factors including experience, education, certifications, etc.

Responsibilities
Develop the Bill of Materials (BOMs) required to produce master heats of superalloy that satisfy all customer specifications for chemistry.
Produce customer orders at target chemistry by taking into consideration impact of sequencing, material usages, and raw material formulation.
Review manufacturing processes and/or scheduling practices to identify opportunities to improve success rate of alloy production.
Analyze how various raw materials (elemental and re-purposed alloy) are to be utilized in the formulation of master heat chemistries.
Maintain and improve the production database of chemistry targets required for manufacturing.
Monitor trends in alloy chemistry and institute the necessary controls to limit the heat-to-heat variation.
Participate in root cause / corrective action investigations to prevent re-occurrence of process and/or product deviations.
Maintain technical liaisons and strong working relationships with the Alloy Process Owners in the US based Howmet Casting Plants.
Develop working knowledge of the analytical lab equipment functions and results capabilities.
Conduct evaluations seeking to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of the VIM and AIM processes.
Perform feasibility studies for new alloy development including utilization of statistical tools such as capability analysis, confidence intervals, etc.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
• This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.
• Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
• B.S. degree in Metallurgical or Materials Science Engineering.
• Ability to travel when needed to progress active projects or perform reviews at vendors or customers.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in a metal foundry environment, particularly in the manufacture of superalloy, and/or experience in investment casting.
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook.
• Experience in Microsoft Power BI or other similar data visualization platforms.
• Six Sigma Green Belt training preferred.
• Excellent written & oral communications skills.
• Ability to work in a self-directed or team environment with strong organizational skills.
• Working knowledge of statistical analysis.
• Strong analytical abilities.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and create project plans. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the customer and/or management.
Salary range
- $90,000 - $100,000 per year
