Job Summary

The Technician – Plumber will have a strong focus on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment on all Plumbing and Mechanical Systems.Individuals are expected to demonstrate technical expertise in Plumbing maintenance and troubleshooting. The individual in this role must be available for call-in work and perform other duties as required. Some overtime is to be expected. Develop and maintain building and campus assets through proper maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and repairing, reheat coils, all potable and non-potable water systems, fire pumps and sprinkler systems and other associated mechanical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot customer service calls for all potable and non-potable water systems inside our buildings.
  • Individual will partner with subject matter experts (SME) & Reliability services to trouble operational issues.
  • Ensures that all appropriate R&M data (e.g., material costs, contract labor costs, effort) is captured on a work order.
  • Role will support of the following operations at the BMS Devens campus:
    • Biologics Large Scale Commercial Manufacturing
    • Biologics Clinical Manufacturing
    • Biologics Cell Bank Manufacturing
    • Biologics Development and Laboratory operations
    • CAR-T (Cell Therapy) Manufacturing
  • Responsible for the effective uninterrupted support of Facilities operational activities for BMS Devens.
  • Review and analyzing system data and developing initial recommendation with Reliability Manager and/or Operations Manager on any maintenance changes, upgrades, replacements, etc.
  • Cross train and / or back up, as appropriate to the advanced level.
  • Maintain up to date and complete system documentation in a central resource location for all repairs or changes to the system.
  • Monitor the operation and make adjustments on: Non-potable & Potable water systems, hot water systems, floor radiant heating systems, chilled water, boilers, heating and ventilating equipment, domestic water heaters, pumps, valves, piping, Backflow preventors and filters, other mechanical equipment, record readings and make adjustments where necessary to assure proper operation of equipment.
  • Analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of any problems / malfunctions, and make recommendations to management on the corrective action as required.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on all base building and critical plumbing system equipment.
  • Conduct immediate clean-up of work area, returning tools to workshop, and unused supplies to storeroom,
  • Report any equipment problems, impending supply or material shortages to the Operations Manager.
  • Maintains tools and orders supplies as required for installation and repairs.
  • Complies with departmental policy for the safe storage, usage and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Any/other duties assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • High School diploma, state equivalent, or GED equivalent.
  • 2+ years of related trade schooling or equivalent, preferred.
  • Massachusetts Journeyman Plumbing License – Required
  • Operations experience - Required
  • Massachusetts Sprinkler Fitter License a plus
  • Massachusetts Gas license a plus
  • Boiler License or EPA certification is a plus.
  • Massachusetts Refrigeration License a plus
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and local codes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well in both oral and written reports.
  • Familiar with Building and Process Automation Systems - Rockwell, entelliweb, Emerson, etc.
  • Familiar with computer equipment and programs.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to operate electric hand tools, work on a ladder up to 28’, carry tools, lift and carry heavy loads, operate required equipment, and operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to work in close places such as closets, crawl spaces, attics, vaults, etc.
  • Ability to work on roofs of buildings – able to safely perform overhead work while standing on a ladder
  • Demonstrated ability to manage across functional lines and deliver results in a matrix organization.

The starting compensation for this job is a range from US-MA- $97,030 -$117,600 plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).

The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.

Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
