Summary/Objective:
The Pool Projectionist will be responsible for all assigned technical and projection aspects of the David Geffen Theater, Ted Mann Theater, Samuel Goldwyn Theater, and Linwood Dunn Theater. You will ensure the highest level of technical precision across all projected media formats and event types, providing Academy members, museum guests, and clients with an exceptional presentation experience.
This position is represented by a union.

Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Assist with film and digital prep and inspection.
  • Perform 35mm changeover projection with the attitude and approach that every print is an archive print and that the quality of every show matters.
  • Build and test DCP playlists that include multiple files and cues.
  • Practice proper safety protocols relating to xenon and laser light sources.
  • Meet all operational and technical challenges needed for a successful show.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of theater management, in-house projection staff, guest engineers, and Academy technical committees.
  • Work well independently and as part of a team when performing projection duties.
  • Adapt with diplomacy to changing needs of assigned shows and tasks.
  • Uphold the Academy standard for exhibition and program excellence.

Required Competencies:
  • An IATSE 695 membership or a willingness to join.
  • 5+ years’ experience operating motion picture projection and sound equipment of all film types to ensure optimum performance.
  • Hands-on experience with digital cinema projectors, and the various image and sound reproduction sources associated with them.
  • Experience working in fast-paced clip shows and events.
  • Thorough knowledge of film gauges, stock types, picture aspect ratios, and sound reproduction techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of digital projection and related servers including but not limited to Dolby Vision, and Dolby integrated media servers.
  • Experience using the appropriate computer-based hardware and software is required.
  • Understanding of procedures relating to all shows and events reproduced via digital cinema packages and KDM’s in how they are obtained, organized, ingested, and projected.
  • Understanding of signal flow between various types of equipment for both digital and analog.
  • A strong sense of showmanship.
  • A positive attitude and ability to adapt and be flexible to new technologies and procedures.
  • Availability to work nights and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with 16 mm and 70mm film, Qlab, and Playback Pro is a plus.

Compensation: The salary for this role is $64.11 per hour.
