Location: Materials and Fuels Complex
Schedule: 4X10’s with every Friday off
Program Duration: 2 year
Position Overview: Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a post bachelor’s student for a two-year program designed to bridge the gap between education and career readiness. The selected candidate will work as a Software Engineer, contributing to solutions using current and latest computing technologies to partner with legacy software applications complying with NQA-1 requirements. The student will apply experience in software and hardware engineering principles, theories, concepts, and technologies with complex engineered systems.
Responsibilities:
- Apply software engineering principles, theories, and concepts to processes and information display and visualization.
- Plan, develop and implement software-engineering solutions to complex chemical and metallurgical processing applications and related projects. This requires flowsheet modeling, material balance calculations, and material tracking methodologies.
- Support project plans and requirements, establish scope, cost and schedule estimates for development activities.
- Participate in technical reviews for process data analysis at various phases of development and provide recommendations for computer technology solutions to customers and management's needs.
- Maintain and upgrade a variety of database architectures and software systems, and develop new software capabilities to support chemical and metallurgical processing.
- Create new methodologies and architectures that grow the organizations' mission.
- Ensure Compliance with INL's safety, security, environmental, health and nuclear quality assurance requirements.
- Analyze source code and system design documentation, reports from users, and other technical artifacts to create reports and present to other staff and management assessments of code quality, the probable origin and possible effects of defects and anomalies, and recommendations for improvements and enhancements.
- Participate in professional development to maintain technical proficiency in current and latest technologies.
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, computer information systems, information technology field, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Computer Science or Software Engineering with experience in Chemical, Metallurgical or Nuclear Engineering.
- Have experience with chemical, metallurgical or similar process plants, systems, and equipment and understand metallurgical accounting and statistics modeling.

Job Information:
- The pay range for this position is $82,152 - $88,987. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this classification, the employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials, manipulate tools, keyboard, and type, reach with hands and arms, and operate job-related equipment. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance.
