Physical Requirements

Primarily Days Monday – Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, some evenings and weekends may be required due to experimentation.
Job Summary
A post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Diego Lucero at the Saha Cardiovascular Research Center, University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Lexington, KY. We are seeking a motivated and talented scientist to investigate the mechanisms that modulate the cellular internalization of lipoproteins in the liver and the arterial wall. The overall goal of the laboratory is to identify new regulators of lipoprotein metabolism and understand their role in regulating lipid levels in the blood, with the intention of improving the diagnosis of inherited lipid disorders and uncovering new drug targets to help prevent heart disease. We are seeking outstanding scientists with a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree to work with Dr. Lucero on NIH-sponsored research aimed at characterizing modulators of lipoprotein endocytosis. The ideal candidate will have research experience in the field of cardiometabolic disorders; however, outstanding candidates from other areas of research with an interest in lipoproteins will also be considered. Although not required, research experience in lipoprotein metabolism and atherosclerosis is a plus. The responsibilities of the position include designing and conducting experimental studies, as well as analyzing, organizing, and presenting experimental data, and assisting in the dissemination of findings through abstracts and scientific manuscripts. Experience in cell culture, biochemistry and molecular biology techniques, as well as immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry, is desirable. A strong background in small animal models is also desirable. The ideal candidate will be highly independent but also able to work collaboratively to advance the research projects collectively. Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills, are essential.
