A Postdoctoral Associate Position to study lipid nitration reactions signaling is available in the laboratory of Dr. Francisco Schopfer, at the University of Pittsburgh, Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology. The Candidate will be performing research, continuing several ongoing lines of investigation in the laboratory.

The Schopfer Laboratory is seeking competitive candidates who have recently earned a PhD and possess excellent written and verbal English communication skills, outstanding critical thinking and problem-solving skills, ability to work as part of a team, and experience in GC-MSMS, LC-MSMS, and LC-CAD-MSMS. A strong background in analytical chemistry is required. Experience with animal models and cell culture is preferred. The Schopfer lab studies the chemical reaction that forms nitrated fatty acids, their in vivo characterization, and their biological activities.

Job Duties: This position will perform extensive LC-MSMS and GC-MSMSM characterization and quantification of nitrated lipids using our in-house mass spectrometers. The position will also be responsible for performing cellular and animal models of inflammation. This position will train and assist Graduate Students, Research Technicians, and Pitt Student Workers with their research projects and projects related to signaling and analysis of nitrated fatty acids.

Candidates will work directly alongside the PI (Dr. Francisco Schopfer) and develop several career-related skill sets, including manuscript preparation, oral presentations, and grant writing.

Qualifications: Candidate must have earned a PhD/MD Degree in the field of lipid biology and mass spectrometry.
