Med-OB-Gyn & Reproductive Science - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (26003010)
Postdoctoral Position – Yanowitz Laboratory, Magee-Womens Research Institute / University of Pittsburgh
A postdoctoral position is available in the Yanowitz laboratory at Magee-Womens Research Institute and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The lab’s research focuses on the mechanisms governing germline genome integrity and meiosis, with particular emphasis on meiotic crossover surveillance, meiotic break formation, and the function of intrinsically disordered proteins in genome stability. We employ a combination of genetic, molecular, biochemical, and advanced imaging approaches using C. elegans as our primary model organism. The candidate will expected to participate and present in lab journal clubs and lab meetings, at the Pittsburgh area Worm Meeting and the in MWRI Seminar Series. The candidate will guide an independent research project and be responsible for its completion, including the writing and editing related papers. The candidate will help editing grants, as well as manuscripts from other members of the laboratory. The lab frequently has undergraduate and high school students, so the candidate will be expected to help train and supervise these students. All members of the laboratory are expected to share in basic laboratory maintenance duties (making solutions, pouring plates, defrosting freezers, cleaning the laboratory).
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a deep intellectual commitment to understanding the fundamental biology of meiosis. Prior experience with C. elegans is preferred, though candidates with a strong background in genetics, cell biology, or biochemistry and a demonstrated passion for meiotic biology are encouraged to apply. PhD required.
