The Pre-Professional Advisor is responsible for advising students who wish to enter a pre-health career and/or professional school. In addition, this position holds the responsibilities described below.
- Maintain a minimum of three office hours per week for appointments and schedule other times as needed, in addition to being available by email and phone,
- Advising will consist of course selection, interview preparation, application reviews, and overall navigation of professional schools and careers,
- Develop a system with defined benchmarks for each area of interest (such as pre-medical, pre-dentistry, pre-veterinary, and others) to guide students through the application process,
- Establish a mechanism to measure individual progress towards graduation and professional school,
- Establish a network of locations for students to do internships/medical observation hours,
- Serve as a co-advisor for the Pre Health-Professions Club,
- Work with faculty to create and maintain a Health Professions Advisory Committee at Alvernia University
The Pre-Professional Advisor reports to the Chair of the Science Department and consults with the Dean of the College of STEAM and other administrative staff as appropriate.
