Principal Helios Physicist - 762
We are seeking a Principal Helios Physicist in our Brooklyn Park, MN location, to integrate and validate Helios systems. Helios is our current-generation quantum computer with 98 physical qubits and >99.9% two-qubit fidelities that is available through the cloud. Our first on-premises unit will be installed in Singapore with other locations to follow. The ideal candidate will have deep experience building, validating, and optimizing the performance of a complex scientific apparatus or commercial product based on atomic or similar quantum building blocks. Day-to-day work will involve complex problem solving; hands-on work with optical, mechanical, and electronic systems; coding; and the satisfaction of delivering a product to a customer. We are looking for a candidate with world-class expertise and drive to make sure Helios units are completed on time and to our high-quality standards. Key Responsibilities:
- Work with a dedicated team to successfully integrate and validate Helios systems at our manufacturing facility
- Collaborate broadly with world-wide Engineering, Deployment, and Operations teams to ensure successful product delivery and identify design, implementation, and process improvements
- Assess, analyze, document, and communicate results, whether for standard requirement testing or when troubleshooting rare and complicated error conditions or design issues
- Remote support of Deployment and Operations teams as required during installation at customer premises
- Model exceptional scientific and/or engineering discipline and skills; mentor colleagues and collaborators
- Utmost focus is on business success, technical progress, and professional interactions for both you and the team
- PhD degree minimum
- Minimum 10 years of post-graduate experience (M.S. or Ph.D. inclusive) as a technical contributor or leader in atomic physics, quantum computing, or advanced technology development role
- Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status
- Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
- A deep knowledge of trapped-ion-based technology, high-performance quantum computing, and technical hardware integration and validation
- A proven track record of atomic physics research and development as evidenced by scholarly publications, successful program execution, and/or launched products
- Experience as a technical team leader driving work execution on complex technical projects requiring communication and coordination with cross-functional teams involving hardware engineers, software engineers, theorists, and technicians
- Experience with lasers, laser cooling, atom trapping, cryogenics, ultra-high vacuum systems, analog and digital electronics, laboratory hardware control, Python, physical modelling, and data analysis
- A strong drive to exceed performance and schedule expectations
- Commitment to documenting work via shared note taking as well as the creation and maintenance of standard work documentation, test plans, troubleshooting guides, and configuration documentation
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
