Based in Atlanta, EZA provides nuclear power, government, university and commercial laboratories with reference and calibration standards, sources, and proficiency testing samples to support quality measurements traceable to national standards.
The Job
Eckert & Ziegler Analytics seeks a Production Managerwho is responsible for overseeing the daily production of NIST traceable radioactive standards and performance testing samples. Performs data verification by alpha, beta and gamma counting. Performs technical review of customer quotes and customer specific requirements. Manages nuclide inventory. Supports the company’s traceability program by assisting the Nuclear Metrologist with preparing, measuring and evaluating NIST blinds. Provides technical support to Sales, Quality, Material Control and Counting Laboratory.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Manage daily activities of production personnel
- Calibrate radioactive solutions
- Troubleshoot problematic orders
- Oversee training and qualification of Production personnel.
- Manufacture calibration standards, PT samples and NIST blinds
- Perform data verification by alpha, beta and gamma counting
- Perform technical review of customer quotes and customer sales orders
- Maintain and ensure accuracy of nuclide inventory
- Maintain chemical inventory and SDS database
- Ensure adequate supply of Production materials and supplies
- Lead and/or participate in research and development projects
- Responsible for forecasting and meeting department budget
- Attend and present at relevant technical meetings and conferences
- Supports the HP department with radioactive waste management & general radiation safety and non-radiological safety practices.
- Knowledgeable of the ISO 9001, ISO 17025 and ISO 17043 standard requirements, and ensures all respective departmental responsibilities for the standards are met.
- Completes Performance Evaluations of Production personnel
- Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Managing Director
Requirements:
- Minimum education (or substitute experience) required: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or nuclear chemistry and minimum five years’ experience. Or master’s or Ph.D. in chemistry or nuclear chemistry and minimum three years’ experience.
- Minimum experience required: Minimum 5 years’ experience combining wet chemistry; calibration of solutions; preparation and calibration of radioactivity standards; radioactivity measurement and direct managerial and supervisory experience.
- Abilities and skills required:
- Thorough knowledge of radioactivity (alpha, beta, gamma and neutron radiation)
- Knowledge of wet chemistry
- Extensive knowledge of counting statistics
- Must be safety-oriented, neat, and clean
- Possess sound judgment and decision-making ability
- Ability to highly technical problems
- Proficient with nuclear data references, for example:
- IAEA TECDOC-619 (1991)
- NCRP Book No. 58 (1985)
- Table of Radioactive Isotopes (1986)
- NIST Technical Note 1297 (1994)
- IAEA Technical Reports Series 261 (1986)
- On-line databases (e.g., DDEP, ENSDF)
- Leadership skills and emotional intelligence
- Effective communication and team oriented
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Spectroscopy software (alpha, beta and gamma counting systems)
