The Project Engineer II role is responsible for managing aspects of projects including oversight and planning for engineering design, procurement, and construction inspection.The Project Engineer II will support a multi-discipline team through the development of designs for electrical power distribution systems, transportation systems, roadway lighting, intelligent transportation system (ITS), vehicle charging stations, pump stations, and fiber optic networks.
This Project Engineer II will play an active role in the development of plans, specifications, estimates and reports in support of projects for both vertical and horizontal infrastructure. We expect the Project Engineer II to report to the Lisle office or to a project site a minimum of three (3) days per week as required by the project or as directed by their manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate technical aspects of project, which may include contract submission, designs, testing, studies, and data collection/analysis
- Responsible for performing technical assignments throughout assigned projects including design plan and specification development, perform and verify engineering calculations, construction inspections, construction layout, and conducting field tests
- Establish familiarity with applicable project specifications and apply them to the work
- Assist in preparation of specifications and timeline of project to both internal and external clients
- Provide status reports of project schedules and budget
- Review project plans and proposals and suggest updates or maintain changes as needed
- Perform quality control reviews of the work and regularly report on project status
- Maintain professional integrity and reputation through compliance with state and federal regulations
- Cooperate and communicate effectively with team members to assist and support
- Prepares drawings, specifications, and procedures for the construction of electrical equipment and systems
- Prepares and/or reviews and evaluates design studies and calculations for electrical systems and equipment
- Development of construction cost estimates
- Participates in Design/Quality control
- Participates in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data
- Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems
- Present solutions to concerns
- Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers
- Perform other duties as required/directed
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program
- 2+ years' professional project experience with design and development of electrical power distribution, roadway lighting, ITS, or traffic signals
- Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or ability to complete within first year of employment
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills
- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary engineering teams of civil and mechanical engineers
- Knowledgeable with rules, regulations, best practices, procedures, performance standards, and engineering techniques
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks at a time in a fast paced environment
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and decision-making skills
- Valid driver’s license & ability to travel for site visits
- Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite) and experience using AutoCAD or MicroStation design software
- Basic knowledge of and experience in roadway lighting, ITS, and fiber optic infrastructure
- Experience applying National Electrical Code to a wide variety of projects (preferred)
- NCEES Account to achieve Professional Registrations in other jurisdictions (preferred)
- Experience designing electrical systems supporting infrastructure projects and complex lighting (preferred)
