Job Description
Pay Rate: $100000 to $125000 per year.
Position Purpose:
Under direction of the Engineering Manager, the Project Engineering Associate will be primarily responsible for engineering and technical services activities at the Veolia Water Long Island (VWLI) Nassau County Project, including three (3) WWTPs with a total capacity of 150 MGD, 3000 miles of sanitary sewers within the collection system and 57 lift stations, all serving approx. 1.05 million customers. This position will be responsible for construction management support at the three (3) advanced WWTPs, lift stations, collection system, and safety related projects. This will include coordinating the activities of an engineering and technical staff to ensure that work is performed by contractors is in accordance to approved plans and specifications are significant aspects of the work. Some of this work may include working alongside the Client's contractors.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Routine responsibilities include :
- Preparation of engineering studies, evaluations, and technical memos.
- Develop scope of works and cost estimates for projects.
- Coordinate scheduling and managing interface of construction with operations and maintenance staff.
- Assisting the Client by attending preconstruction job meetings to review all aspects of construction projects, indicating priorities for the completion of various aspects of the work. Reviewing sections of the plans and specifications that may present construction problems.
- Makes onsite inspections of construction while in progress and upon completion working with Client Construction Management groups to ensure field conditions do not affect engineering or design integrity of the project.
- Works with other groups to respond to correspondence from the contractors, consulting engineers, or Client regarding interpretation of the specifications, approvals of equipment and materials, and workmanship standards.
- Uses computers with databases and/or project management software to enter data, produce forms, and prepare reports.
- Provide inspections and coordinate and oversee construction and performance tests.
- Non-Routine responsibilities include :
- Emergency call outs and back-up services to operations as required.
Work Environment:
- The work environment is typically in an office environment but requires periodic inspection of the treatment facilities where the employee will also be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and an industrial plant environment which involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Work environment also involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field.
- Minimum of Five (5) years water/wastewater or public works environment related work experience.
- Experience with Handling preconstructions and construction process meeting.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of construction techniques and procedures.
- Construction scheduling and budgeting.
- Familiarities with "manual of permitted operations" (MOPO) practices.
- Construction design review.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, pump stations and sanitary sewer system design and operations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with all employees.
- Must be able to prioritize and work simultaneously on several projects.
- Ability to perform within a team atmosphere.
- Ability to shift priorities and effectively perform under pressure and deadlines.
- Excellent computer skills.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Certified Construction Manager is desired.
- Project Management Professional is a plus.
- State of New York professional engineering certification/license is required or able to obtain within 1 year is a plus.
