Overview of Role/Job Purpose:

The Project Manager I will manage complex cross-functional initiatives in a fast-paced environment at VertexOne and will apply knowledge of all Project Management discipline areas (Scope, Risk, Quality, Cost, Communication, Schedule, Stakeholders, Resources and Procurement) to create/maintain or lead the creation of deliverables for project planning, execution, reporting, reviewing, and decision making. They will be responsible for the planning and execution of multiple concurrent initiatives for the VertexOne Deployment Project Management Office (PMO).

This position will lead other teams at VertexOne to execute multiple project objectives, including deliverables, budget performance, and schedule adherence.

The role needs a experienced project leader leader and communicator with a positive "can do" attitude and a demonstrated track record of successfully delivering solutions. Individuals need to take responsibility, be organized, and demonstrate a professional approach to their work.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Identify and plan projects to achieve business objectives and develop project charters
  • Develop detailed project plans ensuring that all tasks are appropriately scheduled (dependency, dates, resources, effort) and aligned with business objectives
  • Identify key stakeholders and manage internal and external expectations
  • Manage resources, communicate responsibilities and ensure accountability to completing deliverables
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure an effective governance model is defined and implemented to ensure project success
  • Manage change requests and control scope
  • Document and manage risks, action items, issues, constraints, assumptions, escalating as appropriate
  • Work through challenges to problem solve, mitigate risk and ensure successful delivery.
  • Identify and negotiate with management to allocate sufficient resources and obtain help to successfully execute
  • Manage communications across cross-functional teams, executives and external stakeholders
  • Establish and maintain relationships with the client stakeholders
  • Prepare for and lead Steering Committee meetings
  • Monitor project progress and provide ongoing project status reporting. Escalate issues in a timely manner
  • Identify lessons learned and recommend changes to enhance the successful delivery of projects
  • Champion a standard project management methodology with supporting processes and best practices
  • Manage multiple projects of varying degrees of complexity concurrently
  • Coach Project Managers and Project Coordinators
  • Up to 25% Travel to client sites

Job Skills/Requirements:

  • Thorough understanding of project management; PMP certification preferred
  • 5+ years (minimum) experience working as a Project Manager in transformational projects
  • 3+ years (minimum) utilities experience and at least 2 projects related to software system implementations
  • Highly organized and able to wear multiple hats in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment; a driving force who manages toward clarity and solutions.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Successful track record in setting priorities, shaping processes, managing people and implementing technology
  • Have a strong customer focus
  • Ability to learn quickly and provide value when placed in unfamiliar settings
  • Ability to meet deadlines on aggressive schedules
  • Ability to multi-task and to give and take direction
  • Excellent communicator of ideas both orally and through documents and other visual aids
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Methodical approach to planning and working
  • MS Office Suite Proficiency (including Microsoft Project and Visio)
