POSITION SUMMARY
The Project Safety Coordinator is responsible for the overall administration of safety guidelines on the project site and for developing their own knowledge of safety and the construction process. This individual must take an active role in their personal development and seek opportunities to gain field experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor safety efforts of subcontractors and McCarthy Building Companies employees by conducting weekly project safety toolbox meetings and enforcing safety guidelines in accordance with disciplinary policies
- Ensure procedures outlined in the Site-Specific Safety Manual are implemented on the project site
- Oversee the issuance of new hire safety documents and lead the onboarding of employees and subcontractors into the McCarthy safety culture
- Coordinate with project supervision to ensure personal protective equipment (PPE), safety materials, and first aid supplies are available, properly utilized, and that all safety documents are posted on-site
- Maintain the project OSHA 300 log of injuries and illnesses; investigate all incidents and coordinate corrective actions
- Conduct safety and health inspections; coordinate responses and ensure compliance reporting
- Record and forward copies of all safety-related meetings, programs, citations, etc., to the Division Safety Director
- Promote McCarthys safety culture
- Coordinate with project supervision to ensure necessary PPE and safety materials are available and used correctly
- Conduct thorough and organized New Employee Orientations that clearly communicate project safety hazards and processes
- Become familiar with McCarthys safety compliance reporting and ensure it is completed and submitted in a timely manner
- Organize and deliver effective safety toolbox talks relevant to ongoing work activities
- Develop a strong understanding of McCarthys Vital Processes inspections and ensure project participation
- Build skills in hazard identification and implementation of corrective measures
- Gain familiarity with McCarthy safety guidelines, 29 CFR 1926, and applicable state and federal regulations
- Develop an understanding of the accident investigation process
- Understand and embody McCarthys core values, demonstrating them in interactions with internal and external stakeholders
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1+ years of experience managing safety efforts on construction projects
- Bachelors degree in a related field required
- Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with all construction groups, including management, owners, trades, and subcontractors
- Ability to manage and administer safety orientations, oversee substance abuse programs, investigate and report on injuries/illnesses/near misses, and perform various on-site safety functions
- Excellent communication, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
