Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Quality Engineer – Non Destructive Examination Specialist (NDE) to work in our Environment, Safety, Health and Quality department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Advanced Test Reactor complex in Idaho with every Friday off.
You will report to the Quality Manger. In the role you will review, develop and implement specifications, technical methods, control systems, protocols, and procedures to ensure quality standards are in place and product quality is achieved in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct reviews for applicable activities to assure adequate quality requirements are identified and incorporated.
  • Establish protocols for inspection basis and nonconformance conditions.
  • Provide technical expertise, assistance, and advice to program, project, facility management and personnel relative to quality compliance and implementation issues. Interact with facility senior management on significant matters requiring coordination across organizations lines.
  • Provide solutions to resolve facility, program, or project compliance issues.
  • Develop quality planning documents implementing BEA engineering principles. Develop technical quality assurance inspection plans for items, work orders, and services to ensure compliance with design and procurement requirements.
  • Review and approve technical quality-related contract and procurement actions to ensure appropriate satisfaction of engineering requirements.
  • Provide Quality Program expertise to assist assigned facility personnel in the development of new quality concepts for new structure, system, and component (SSC) design, development, procurement, and installation.
  • Conduct Quality assessments and surveillance activities to identify weaknesses and potential safety, quality, and efficiency improvements.
  • Provide input to subject matter experts and functional area managers to promote continuous improvement in INL Quality and related processes.
  • Interface with internal and external customers to determine that needs are being met.
    Coach/mentor facility personnel through the application of subject matter expertise in the technical requirements for activities affecting quality in DOE Nuclear Facilities and Non-nuclear Facilities.
  • Provide surveillance, auditing, and reporting services for a given facility or scope of work assignment to ensure facility management has clear visibility and the opportunity to manage organizational performance.
  • Ensure compliance through the creation, revision, review and concurrence of governing documentation for projects, work orders, and activities.
  • Maintain complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, and practices required for delivering technical quality techniques and tools.
  • Maintain required training and proficiency per training plan.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Level 4: Bachelor of Science degree in technical field related to Quality (Chemistry, Engineering, or related field) and 9 years of relevant experience or a master’s degree and 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Level 5: Bachelor of Science degree in technical field related to Quality (Chemistry, Engineering, or related field) and 14 years of relevant experience or a master’s degree and 8 years of relevant experience.
  • 15 Years ASME or API 570 Piping Design, Fabrication, Erection, and/or Inspection Experience & 60+ hours College, Technical School, or Related Education in lieu of degree (You will be required to provide documentation and education validation)
  • Relevant experience commensurate with level in a Quality related field (NDE engineering, operations, manufacturing, etc.).
  • Must be able to obtain BEA Quality Engineer certification.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

  • Advanced degree in technical field related to Quality (Chemistry, Engineering, or related field).
  • Penetrant and Visual Examination Experience
  • ASME Section III, V, VIII, XI Experience
  • ASME B31.1 & B31.3 Experience
  • AWS D1 Experience
  • ASNT RT Level III Certification Preferred or Ability to certify within 1 Year of employment


Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 4: ($93,204 - $191,076) / Level 5: ($111,888 - $229,284). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.


Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials, manipulate tools, keyboard, and type, reach with hands and arms, and operate job related equipment. May be exposed to heights, stairs, UV (sun exposure), and radiation work. May be exposed to hazards associated with equipment including ladders > 6 feet, machines/electrical hazards, lasers, and motor vehicle usage. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required.
