Position Summary:
The Lab Quality Engineer is responsible for managing quality assurance activities related to incoming supplier components, metrology systems, and calibration of tools and equipment. This role ensures that all measurement systems are accurate and traceable, supplier parts meet specifications, and lab operations support production and engineering needs. The engineer will work closely with suppliers, production teams, and quality personnel to maintain high standards of product integrity and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Supplier Quality:
- Inspect and validate incoming supplier components against engineering specifications.
- Manage supplier non-conformances, initiate corrective actions, and track resolution.
- Support supplier audits and qualification processes.
- Collaborate with purchasing and engineering to improve supplier performance and quality.
Metrology:
- Oversee the use and maintenance of precision measurement equipment (CMMs, height gauges, micrometers, etc.).
- Develop and maintain measurement system analysis (MSA) and gage R&R studies.
- Ensure traceability of measurements to national/international standards.
- Support dimensional analysis and first article inspections (FAI).
Tooling Calibration:
- Manage the calibration program for all production and lab tools and equipment.
- Schedule and track calibration intervals, maintain calibration records, and coordinate with external calibration services.
- Investigate and resolve out-of-tolerance conditions and their impact on product quality.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and internal calibration procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of experience in quality engineering, metrology, or lab operations.
- Strong understanding of measurement principles, GD&T, and calibration standards.
- Experience with supplier quality management and incoming inspection processes.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards.
