Business Unit Information

The Global Risk & Compliance Organization (“GRC”) independently oversee the company’s risk-taking and risk management activities, including the comprehensive identification, management, and mitigation of risks within the Company’s risk appetite. GRC ensures the company operates in a safe, sound and fully compliant manner within all applicable regulatory expectations. We create and maintain the overall risk management framework while ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Reputation Risk Senior Manager to join our growing team. This role will support the enhancement and implementation of our Reputation Risk management program, with specific focus on program development and execution as well as review and challenge of reputation matters and assessments. The ideal candidate will possess direct reputation risk experience and background, particularly within a large organization. Candidates should also possess strong problem solving, and communication skills, and a keen interest and understanding of the evolving internal and external landscape impacting American Express.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy and Program Implementation:

  • Draft Reputation Risk management policies, procedures, and standards, including testing such policies and procedures for compliance and effectiveness across the organization.
  • Support the Director in embedding reputation risk program requirements across the entirety of the organization, including within existing programs where reputation risk considerations may be necessary.
  • Support Director in developing Reputation Risk Program frameworks, thresholds, and escalation criteria.
  • Support the development and delivery of a firm-wide reputation risk training.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, across all lines of defense, to ensure effective socialization and alignment on Reputation Risk program requirements.

Reputation Risk Matter Assessment and Review:

  • Support the Director in responding to, mitigating, and assessing potential reputational risk matters and incidents across the organization.
  • Provide specific reputation risk subject matter expertise as needed, including but not limited to internal strategy development, potential policy changes, external facing reports and campaigns.
  • Perform monthly testing of 1st line reputation risk matter decisions to ensure alignment, completeness, and compliance with program criteria and escalation thresholds.
  • Perform ad-hoc reviews and assessments.

Monitoring and Research:

  • Deliver insights and trend analysis for senior level reporting and Board presentations, in partnership with Manager.
  • Support the development of a comprehensive database of reputation risk incidents and complete lessons learned analysis for senior leaders as needed, in partnership with manager.

Analysis and Reporting:

  • Develop vision and approach for quarterly reputation risk reporting to senior committees and advise Manager on necessary inputs for collection.
  • Directly contribute to the periodic enterprise risk management reporting and commentary related to key reputational risks and underlying drivers.

Mentorship:

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Manager level staff with particular focus on enhancing awareness and knowledge of reputation risk specific expertise.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's and or master’s degree in risk management, business administration, communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in reputation risk management, corporate communications, crisis management and or related fields.
  • Experience in a first or second-line risk role with focus on risk policy, strategy, or operations
  • Knowledge of risk management frameworks, regulatory landscape, and methodologies.
  • Direct experience working with cross-functional internal teams and external vendors to implement strategies and drive results
  • Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills. Strong critical thinking and analysis in reputation risk related scenarios, attention to detail, and ability to formulate creative and innovate solutions to complex problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to influence business leaders in a meaningful and actionable way
  • Ability to work autonomously to affect change- flexible and adaptable to shifting priorities, managing competing demands to achieve effective results in a complex and fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience mentoring junior level colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in a 2nd line reputation risk management role.
  • Proven track record of developing robust and insightful communications suitable for multiple stakeholders including senior management, regulators, and the Board
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience mentoring junior level colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in a 2nd line reputation risk management role.
  • Proven track record of developing robust and insightful communications suitable for multiple stakeholders including senior management, regulators, and the Board

Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually + bonus + benefits
