Job Summary
- The RN – Clinical Supervisor provides clinical and administrative leadership for a hospital unit, supporting patient care delivery and overseeing nursing staff performance. This position works in collaboration with the unit director to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. Responsibilities include supervision of staff, shift coordination, support for clinical practice, and facilitation of operational initiatives, staffing, and patient flow.
Essential Functions
- Provides clinical leadership and supervision for RN, LPN, NA, and unit support staff
- Assists with patient care, nursing assessments, and treatment planning using the nursing process
- Coordinates nursing activities and resource use to achieve unit goals
- Ensures quality, safety, and regulatory compliance in daily operations
- Participates in patient education, discharge planning, and interdisciplinary care coordination
- Supports staff development through mentoring, training, and education
- Assists in hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions
- Contributes to budgeting, staffing plans, and resource management
- Assists in audits, performance improvement, and policy development

Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program
Licenses/Certifications
- Current RN license in state of practice or compact license required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – required within time frame required by facility policy
- Additional certifications (e.g., ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale) as required by facility policy or patient population
Experience
- Minimum two years of clinical experience in acute care nursing
- Charge nurse or supervisory experience preferred
