At Mill Creek Residential Trust, a Safety Manager is responsible for providing support to the project management team, supervisors, subcontractors, foremen and workers. The Safety Manager is expected to provide leadership and coordination of the day-to-day safety requirements for the South Florida Projects. The Safety Manager will be responsible for assuring that all projects are in strict compliance with OSHA regulations.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Provide support to the project by maintaining a visible presence to the field performing site visits to each of our projects twice a week.
- All visits shall be coordinated with the project team. The Safety Manager is required to walk the project with a member of the project team. The goal is to educate our staff on OSHA requirements as well as our Company’s safety program.
- Assist in coaching, mentoring and implementation of OSHA and Mill Creek’s Health and Safety Standards.
- Inform the project management team and supervision of any new or conflictive legislative matters that could impact the projects.
- Ensure that all incidents be reported immediately.
- Participate and assist the supervisors, foreman and safety advisors in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause and corrective actions where necessary.
- Ensure incident corrective actions be followed up on and completed.
- Ensure injured workers be offered modified duties and documentation has been completed. Monitor and follow up on modified workers in the field.
- Verify field staff training and competencies; consult the project management team for compliance and action plan.
- Ensure new hires are orientated to the Mill Creek Construction and all required documentation be completed accurately and forwarded to the office.
- Prepare for and participate in safety audits.
- Communicate, coach and assist the field staff to ensure that all safety expectations be understood and met.
- Coordinate a regular meeting with the project safety team to review issues, trends and upcoming conditions or events.
- Audit/prescreen each subcontractor’s mod rate as a gauge to evaluate risk during subcontractor awards.
- Participate in preconstruction/award meetings to inform subcontractors of their responsibilities as they relate to safety on any Mill Creek project.
- Other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management from an accredited University.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience
