Program Description:

SAMP Success Ambassadors will provide peer-to-peer mentorship to a cohort of 20 Success Scholars. They will assist the professional Success Coaches with program/workshop facilitation, planning of events, and social functions at HCC. SAMP Success Ambassadors are required to attend the Ambassador orientation.

The Student Ambassador and Mentorship Program (SAMP) is an equity-driven initiative that provides HCC students an opportunity to serve and represent Holyoke Community College in various capacities. SAMP’s core values are Leadership, Professional Development, and Community. SAMP aims to provide on-going leadership and professional development training to prepare and support participants in their role. To foster a sense of belonging amongst the cohort, participants are provided peer-to-peer mentorship and opportunities to build community.

Mentorship & Student Support:

  • Provide peer-to-peer mentorship to a caseload of up to 20 Success Scholars.
  • Build meaningful connections with assigned Success Scholars through consistent and personalized outreach, including regular face-to-face meetings whenever possible.
  • Meet with a Success Coach weekly to review caseload of students.
  • Document interactions with Success Scholars in a timely manner.
  • Make appropriate referrals.
  • Establish and maintain healthy boundaries in mentor-mentee relationships.
  • Promote student success.
  • Serve as a positive role model.

Program Engagement & Representation:

  • Support recruitment events.
  • Lead community service projects and events for SAMP Scholars.
  • Represent the college at various events.
  • Provide campus tours to prospective students and other community members.
  • Serve as a greeter during the first week of classes in the fall and spring semesters.
  • Attend Accepted Student Days during the summer.
  • Serve as interns across campus during the summer term.
  • Assist campus departments with office duties and events. *
  • Assist current and incoming students with campus technology (i.e., Navigate, Canvas, Google Suite, etc.).
  • * Department-specific responsibilities will be assigned by the supervisor of each host office. Supervisors are responsible for providing onboarding and guidance related to these duties.

Professionalism & Communication:

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism at all times, including in communication, dress, and behavior on campus and at events.
  • Respond tocommunications from staff, peers, and Success Scholars within 24–48 hours, excluding weekends and holidays, unless otherwise noted.
  • Attend all required training, workshops, SAMP support meetings, and orientation sessions unless otherwise excused in advance by a SAMP staff member.

Logistics & Time Management:

  • Work 15 hours per week during the academic year, with a minimum of 8–10 hours on campus, unless otherwise approved by SAMP staff.
  • Accurately report hours worked using the designated timekeeping system, in compliance with College policies.

To be eligible for the SAMP Success Ambassador position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Currently enrolled in at least six credits
  • Have earned a minimum of six college credits

PREFERRED:

  • Candidates with the following qualifications will be especially well-prepared for success in this role. These are not required, and we encourage all eligible students to apply.
    • Demonstrated commitment to personal growth, leadership, or community involvement (formally or informally).
    • Familiarity with campus support services, student organizations, or college life at HCC
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively while balancing academic and personal responsibilities.

Part-Time/Non-Benefited position

Salary: $15.45/hour

Hours: 15 hours/week
