Saw Operator Position Summary:
The Saw Operator is responsible for the setup and operation of Amada and other sawing equipment—including cold saws, bandsaws, and hot saws—to cut raw materials to specification in support of production. This role also encompasses receiving and organizing incoming materials, performing routine equipment maintenance, and ensuring cut stock is accurately accounted for in the ERP system. By maintaining strong attention to detail and safe work practices, the Saw Operator ensures the shop floor has the right material, in the right quantities, ready for machining.
This position is well-suited for a detail-oriented individual with a basic knowledge of metals and plastics who takes pride in accuracy, organization, and keeping production moving. The Saw Operator works closely with the Warehouse, Production, and Quality teams and reports to the Shop Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
Saw Setup & Operation
- Set up and operate Amada saws, cold saws, bandsaws, and hot saws to cut raw materials per job requirements
- Monitor and inspect parts throughout the sawing process to ensure dimensional accuracy and cut quality
- Perform inspections using manual gauges and instruments to verify material dimensions
- Select appropriate blades, feeds, and speeds based on material type (aluminum, stainless steel, plastics)
Material Receiving & Organization
- Receive incoming raw materials, verify quantities and descriptions against purchase orders, and account for material in the ERP system
- Organize and store received materials in designated locations, maintaining a clean and orderly material staging area
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to move, stage, and store raw stock safely
Equipment Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance on sawing equipment, including blade changes, lubrication, and cleaning
- Monitor equipment condition and report issues requiring repair to the Shop Supervisor
Quality, Safety & Communication
- Observe all company quality and safety procedures
- Communicate and collaborate with team members in the sharing of information and solving technical issues
- Maintain accurate records in the ERP system for material receipts, cut quantities, and job transactions
- Follow all EH&S policies and maintain a safe, organized work environment
Qualifications/Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic knowledge of materials including aluminum, stainless steels, and plastics
- Experience operating forklifts or other material handling equipment
- Basic understanding of computers and ERP systems
- Strong work ethic and high attention to detail
- Flexible, with the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
- Capable of handling sensitive and sometimes confidential information
- Good communication skills for effective teamwork
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
Hours: 5:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. Monday - Thursday
