School Programs Facilitator

Help students explore California art, history, and natural sciences during gallery programs at OMCA! As a School Programs Facilitator, you’ll engage students through inquiry and dialogue, and help students make connections between their own lives and the Museum’s galleries and exhibitions during 60-minute Guided Gallery Visits.



Responsibilities

Your Role:

  • Welcome and orient school groups to in-gallery inquiry programs
  • Support student-driven exploration of galleries through facilitating inquiry and dialogue, in partnership with other volunteers, teachers, and museum staff. Help students make connections to their own lives through storytelling and culturally responsive education practices.
  • This role primarily works indoors.


Qualifications

Scheduling:

  • Thursdays or Fridays, 9 am-12 pm
  • Minimum two shifts per month

Training requirements beyond OMCA volunteer orientation:

  • 6-week facilitator training series, in person at OMCA. Our next training for new facilitators is August 20 to September 25, 2026. Trainings will take place 9:30 am to 12:30 pm on Thursdays and Fridays--please choose one day to consistently attend each week.
  • Museums, Facilitation, and Belonging training on Zoom. Fall 2026 training date TBD.
  • Attend at least 3 monthly workshops or talks during the school year.
