About the Role
We are looking for a talented Data Scientist to lead our AI/ML initiatives and drive innovation in renewable energy solutions through advanced machine learning, anomaly detection, reinforcement learning, and intelligent automation systems. The ideal candidate is passionate about leveraging data to drive innovation in renewable energy solutions and create a seamless user experience for our customers. The Role and Data @ Torus
As a Senior Data Scientist at Torus, you'll spearhead our advanced AI/ML strategy. We operate with a "full-stack data practitioner" philosophy and have a modern data stack (dbt, Redshift, Airflow, Fivetran, Metabase, and Streamlit). You'll architect and implement AI systems including reinforcement learning frameworks, anomaly detection pipelines, intelligent automation systems, and selective LLM integrations. In this role, you'll help drive the strategic vision for how advanced AI (in all of its flavors!) transforms our mission. You'll lead the development of sophisticated ML systems that process diverse energy datasets, create autonomous decision-making frameworks through reinforcement learning, and deploy real-time anomaly detection systems that ensure grid reliability and optimize system performance. Your work will directly influence product strategy and guide team members in implementing best practices for production AI systems.
Our products operate within complex ecosystems including IoT, the electrical grid, commercial and industrial buildings, and smart home devices. Your expertise will help us leverage these ecosystems and all relevant public data to proactively identify inefficiencies, equipment failures, and grid disturbances before they impact customers.
Who You Are
- Action-oriented: You're proactive and find solutions to existing problems. You lean toward experimentation and rapid prototyping over endless planning.
- AI/ML innovator: You stay at the forefront of AI research and excel at translating breakthrough techniques into production systems.
- Naturally curious: You're eager to explore emerging technologies and find novel applications in the energy domain.
- Adaptable: You thrive in a startup environment that demands autonomy, speed, and comfort with ambiguity.
- Mission-driven: You're passionate about using data to combat climate change and transform how people consume energy.
- Team-focused: You work well as part of a collaborative data team with full-stack data practitioners.
- Self-starter: You're excited to work in a rapidly growing startup and apply your technical skills to help customers live clean, renewable lives.
