Position Summary

The Senior Director, HR Partnering serves as the people and talent strategist for assigned to business segments (Parts, Business Development, and After-Sales), acting as a critical member of the leadership team and a trusted advisor to executive and operational leaders. This role directly enables business performance by translating strategy into advanced talent, organization, and workforce solutions.

This position represents a shift from traditional HR partnership to a high impact, business embedded leadership model—focused on measurable outcomes, organizational effectiveness, and enterprise aligned execution in support of AutoNation’s strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Executive Business & Talent Partnership

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leaders, aligning people strategy with business objectives, growth plans, and operational priorities.
  • Translate business strategy into integrated talent, workforce, and organizational plans that drive performance and scalability.
  • Influence leadership decisions through insight driven recommendations and enterprise perspective.

Business Performance Through People

  • Leverage people analytics, workforce data, and performance insights to identify risks, inform decisions, and improve business outcomes.
  • Partner with leaders to improve productivity, talent health, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Ensure talent and workforce strategies are directly connected to financial, operational, and customer metrics.


Talent Strategy & Leadership Effectiveness

  • Guide leaders in building high performing teams through modern talent practices, including succession, development, and capability building.
  • Coach senior leaders and managers on leadership effectiveness, accountability, and change leadership.
  • Identify leadership and capability gaps; partner with HR Centers of Excellence (COEs) to deliver targeted solutions.

Employee Experience, Culture & Change

  • Diagnose organizational culture, engagement, and experience challenges using quantitative and qualitative insights.
  • Partner with leaders to strengthen accountability, alignment, and adherence to AutoNation’s cultural expectations.
  • Lead and support large scale change initiatives that enhance the employee experience and enable business transformation.
  • Advanced HR Consulting & COE Integration
  • Act as the primary integrator between the business and HR COEs, ensuring enterprise solutions are activated consistently and effectively.
  • Influence the design and evolution of talent, learning, total rewards, and recruiting programs through business driven feedback.

People Analytics & Workforce Insights

  • Utilize dashboards and advanced analytics tools (e.g., AskHR, AI agents, Copilot, Workday, Power BI) to diagnose trends and guide decision making.
  • Monitor workforce health indicators including retention risk, talent pipeline strength, and organizational capacity.
  • Translate insights into clear executive level recommendations and targeted interventions.
  • HR Operating Model & Digital Enablement
  • Champion adoption of HR technology, self service tools, and digital workflows to streamline operations and reduce administrative burden.
  • Reinforce the enterprise HR operating model focused on strategic impact over transactional work.
  • Identify modernization opportunities and influence continuous improvement across HR practices and capabilities.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10 – 15+ years of progressive HR or people leadership experience, including senior level support of complex, multi site or business unit operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence executive leaders and drive measurable business outcomes through talent and organizational strategy.
  • Strong analytical capability with experience translating workforce data into strategic insights and decisions.
  • Deep expertise in organizational design, leadership development, talent management, and change leadership.
  • Proven success partnering with HR COEs and operating within an enterprise HR model.
