
Senior Laboratory Technician

You will enable and support cutting-edge laboratory testing that evaluates emerging customer-side technologies—such as heat pump water heaters, HVAC and refrigeration systems, electric smart panels, and advanced power solutions—to ensure they deliver on functionality, efficiency, and reliability. Working alongside engineers and senior technical staff in state-of-the-art laboratories, you’ll help generate the data and insights that guide SCE’s Demand Side Management customer programs, influence incentive strategies, and accelerate the adoption of clean energy technologies. Responsibilities
- Provides full-time technical support to the operations and business unit staff.
- Aids in managing subcontractors' schedules for fielding and design deliverables, providing vendor liaison support and maintaining third party relationships.
- Establishes, documents, and maintains procedures and guidelines related to the day-to-day operational support provided to the operations and business unit staff.
- Maintains tracking for long-term performance evaluations and ensures adherence to baseline requirements.
- Documents field trips and product analysis to enable continuous improvement of troubleshooting procedures, product installations, and product robustness.
- Presents project status updates to senior managers during weekly progress meetings.
- Helps develop the scopes of work required by pole owners and power utilities for design and pole loading analysis.
- Resolves incidents and problems and provides support to the monitoring and reporting of the supported systems performance, collaborating with teams in an Agile environment to deliver project goals and solutions.
- Validates and maintains reference information, documentation and databases in order to effectively evaluate, design and engineer complex work requests.
- Performs in-depth analysis, develops recommendations, and may provide consulting to address customer and/or Company problems/issues which cross organizational boundaries and require thorough technical knowledge to resolve.
- Leads team or participate as a team member during implementation of specialized technical projects

Minimum Qualifications
- Five or more years of experience in technical support.
- Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of experience working on lab safety practices and operational compliance in engineering appliance equipment test environments.
- Five or more years skilled in using machine tools and power hand tools; hands-on capabilities in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, and brazing (copper fittings).
- Three or more years with hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical (110/208 VAC, single-and three-phase), and low-voltage DC systems.
- Three or more years of experience with HVAC, refrigeration, and heat pump water heater (HPWH) systems, including maintenance and repair.
- Strong proficiency in instrumentation setup, calibration, and data collection, including DAQ systems and lab computers.
- Strong working experience with programming of data acquisition and control software (e.g., LabVIEW, FlexLogger, Dewetron, or open-source platforms).
- Ability to connect and troubleshoot instrumentation for single- and three-phase electrical systems.
- Experience performing or supporting testing at appliance manufacturer or external test facilities.
- EPA refrigerant handling certification.
- Ability to safely lift, move, and position laboratory equipment weighing up to 25 pounds; heavier items are handled using mechanical aids or team lifts.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and diagnostic skills, particularly for testing apparatus and DAQ hardware/software issues.
- Ability to identify and escalate lab safety, facility, and infrastructure deficiencies.
- Experience supporting regulatory- or program-driven testing (e.g., CPUC, QA/QC, or similar entities).
- Proven ability to coordinate with engineering teams, facilities building management, safety partners, and external vendors for laboratory maintenance, lab testing, and analysis.
- Provides recommendations for possible revisions to future testing plans for given types of appliances and customer end-use equipment.
- Reliable onsite presence with demonstrated responsiveness to urgent operational, safety, or equipment issues.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and ability to support cross-functional project coordination.
Additional Information
- This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

Salary range
- $111,600 - $167,400 per year
