Job Description

The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Audit Senior Manager role is part of the ERM, Operational Risk Management (ORM) and American Express National Bank (AENB) Headquarters Audit team.The ERM Audit Senior Manager will support the execution of audit work to evaluate the risk and control environment of the ERM organization including compliance with ERM regulations/requirements as part of the annual audit plan. The role will collaborate across the ERM, ORM, and AENB HQ team, as well as the broader audit department, second line and other key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Auditor in Charge (AIC) on low-risk audits, managing the audit engagement end-to-end, planning audit projects, defining objectives and scope, and coordinating with control groups, external auditors, stakeholders, and regulators to ensure effective execution; conduct L1 reviews; serve as the primary audit client contact
  • Analyze / review audit results and documentation to evaluate effectiveness and efficiency, synthesizing audit findings
  • Lead audit client meetings and walkthroughs
  • Develop test steps, audit findings, and the audit report in accordance with IAG policies and procedures
  • Guide team on how to validate and execute corrective actions / Management Action Plans (MAPs) are impactful, sustainable, and improve the control environment of the business unit
  • Support business monitoring activities with audit leadership, tracking key metrics to identify control issues and trends; stay up to date with evolving industry trends, external news and regulatory changes, and analyze the impact to the business
  • Delegate tasks to team members; guide auditors in assessing risks, evaluating control design, and executing audit tests; review and provide feedback on work papers
  • Effectively coach, teach, mentor, and develop less experienced colleagues and co-sourced resources in geographically diverse locations across all aspects of their role, the audit and analytic lifecycle, audit methodology and best practices
  • Conduct post-audit feedback discussions with audit team members to provide actionable feedback, support development, and recognize accomplishments
  • Guide team to proactively and routinely communicate task status, roadblocks, challenges, suggesting potential solutions to the team

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to analyze and interpret applicable industry regulations and expectations, including the OCC Handbooks, in assessing/auditing Enterprise Risk Management programs within large and complex institutions (6+ years of experience)
  • Understanding of critical enterprise management lifecycle activities and the ability to clearly articulate risk insights to stakeholders
  • Proven ability to create/utilize data analytics, automated testing, and AI tools to streamline audit procedures, identify insights, and strengthen risk assessments and audit conclusions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills that deliver high quality, actionable and value-added feedback to management on potential risk and control issues and management’s potential solutions to close gaps
  • Collaborate with colleagues and co-sourced resources in geographically diverse locations across all aspects of their role, the audit lifecycle, audit methodology and best practices
  • Effectively works independently, within a team and across teams in a fast-paced environment to drive results, using related project management skills, employing creative thinking, a focus on quality, and the ability to work on competing priorities
  • Proven ability to support multiple projects concurrently delivering high quality work products, in compliance with internal audit standards and regulatory expectations
  • Ability to quickly resolve complex risk issues, adapt to evolving risk landscapes, and effectively utilize risk management tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or related field; advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, MSc) or certifications (e.g. CPA, CIA, CISA, etc.) are advantageous
