Our Internal Audit Group is a worldwide function with 300+ team members and offices across nine countries within American Express. Our mission is to protect and enhance organizational value by providing independent, objective, risk-based assurance, advisory services and to influence the way the company manages risk.
We are committed to growing our audit staff significantly as we continue to expand and enhance the Internal Audit Group. Our assurance and risk professionals have diverse backgrounds including internal controls, consumer compliance, technology, operational risk, financial accounting, data analytics, and banking operations. Our audit teams align to key risk areas and business units to ensure IAG can provide comprehensive and risk-based audit coverage. In addition, IAG has a Professional Practices group responsible for managing audit operations, quality, and standards; regulatory relations; reporting; training and professional development; and key internal capabilities and technologies.
About the role
The Internal Audit Group (IAG) is seeking a Senior Manager – Audit Resourcing to lead and enhance resource planning, capacity management, and third-party oversight activities. This role will support the annual audit plan by delivering analyses and reporting that provide IAG leadership with the insights needed for resourcing decisions, while driving operational efficiencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage IAG’s resource planning tool and lead resource allocation activities, ensuring accuracy of capacity data and optimal utilization across audits and projects
- Produce dashboards and reports on utilization, forecast accuracy, and staffing needs for IAG leadership, and regularly communicate insights on gaps and variances
- Leverage resourcing information to inform staffing decisions, connecting data to audit plan requirements
- Provide analysis to support the annual audit planning process and real-time monitoring of planned vs. actual hours, proactively flagging under/over-utilization
- Manage end-to-end vendor processes to ensure adequate governance and optimization of IAG’s third-party spend; activities include on/offboarding, drafting Statements of Work (SOWs) in coordination with procurement and IAG leadership, monitoring accruals and invoices, and ensuring compliance with IAG procedures
- Prepare presentations and reporting materials for IAG Management and the Audit Committee, including capacity metrics and third-party analyses
- Drive standardization, automation, and continuous improvement of capacity management and vendor oversight processes
- Participate in IAG’s audit reporting processes for Audits, Special Reviews, and Finding Communications, including readiness checks, quality reviews, and distribution
- Assist with external benchmarking, maintain awareness of current, best-in-class internal audit practices, integrating opportunities for IAG
- Support the design and timely implementation of special initiatives in IAG, including solving issues and mitigating risks with effective strategies and collaboration; support the regulatory response, remediation, and implementation of changes related to regulatory issues
- Delegate tasks, provide guidance, coaching and feedback to team members, as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
- 6+ years of experience
- Prior experience working at a Big Four / G-SIB
- Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills to deliver deliverables with quality, and actionable value-add feedback to management on issues, opportunity areas, and deficiency solutions
- Effectively leads a team in a fast-paced environment to drive business results, utilizing related project management skills, employing creative thinking, and the ability to work on competing priorities
- Applies critical thinking to break-down complex problems into components, and solve using data analysis, process, risk control knowledge, and experience to drive risk-based conclusions and decisions
- Applies control theory and professional auditing practices throughout the audit lifecycle
- Understands regulations, regulatory risks, accounting, and financial industry best practices relevant to the business, including emerging technology and data considerations, and incorporates into the audit approach to enhance outcomes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with data analytic tools, data visualization, key risk indicators (KRIs), key performance indicators (KPIs), information systems / technology, and scorecards / dashboards, etc.
- Interest in working with data, interpreting results, analytic best practices and experience with data analytics tools and data visualization
Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually + bonus + benefits
