How will you make an impact in this role?

American Express operates in Mainland China through our joint venture, Express Company (EC), representing a significant opportunity for us to compete in one of the largest and most advanced payments markets in the world. The Enterprise China Management (ECM) team partners across EC and Amex to build the China business and capitalize on this incredibly exciting opportunity for growth.

The Senior Manager, Product & Benefits, will play a critical role in shaping the growth of American Express in Mainland China. This individual will lead cross-functional collaboration across Express Company (EC), bank partners, and internal Amex stakeholders to drive product innovation, portfolio performance, and differentiated customer value propositions in one of the world’s most dynamic payments markets.

This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future of American Express in China by operating at the intersection of strategy, partnerships, product innovation, and market expansion.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic bridge between American Express and Express Company, aligning priorities across product, benefits, and business development teams.
  • Support end-to-end execution of product launches in China, including strategic positioning, partner engagement, go-to-market coordination, and operational readiness to ensure successful commercialization and portfolio performance.
  • Track product performance and derive insights to inform EC portfolio management and strategy setting.
  • Lead the identification, development, and negotiation of differentiated cardmember benefits and strategic partner offerings for the China market, working closely with merchants, network partners, and internal stakeholders to deliver compelling value propositions that drive portfolio growth and competitive differentiation.
  • Drive execution across complex, cross-functional initiatives by aligning stakeholders, proactively mitigating risks, identifying growth opportunities, and delivering strategic recommendations to senior leadership and partners.
  • Act as a key strategic representative of American Express in engagements with issuing partners, influencing decision-making, securing alignment on business priorities, and driving actions that advance Amex and Express Company growth objectives in China.
  • Bring AXP best practices and thought leadership to EC while becoming a go-to-expert on the China market and consumer trends.
  • Work with EC and AXP stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve any potential customer escalations.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in product management or similar functions
  • Tenured Manager/Sr. Manager with experience in card product management, partner benefits management, and/or business development
  • Aptitude for building strong relationships and influencing internal and external partners.
  • Comfortable working against tight deadlines, bringing structure to imperfect information and ambiguity, and developing associated action plans.
  • Project management experience and/or ability to manage multiple stakeholders and workstreams.
  • Adaptable and comfortable working on a variety of initiatives, many without an established process or solution
  • Strong financial and data analytics acumen, executive presence, effective written and verbal communicator
  • Demonstrated ownership mindset, resilience, and commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Flexibility to work across multiple time zones, as needed.
  • Ability to travel to mainland China as business need arises.
  • Bachelor's degree is required

Preferred:

  • Working proficiency in Mandarin (speaking and writing)

Salary range

  • $103,750 - $174,750 per year
