Job Description

The Colleague Experience Group (CEG) is responsible for all colleague-related benefits and programs globally, including career growth and development, leadership and learning, total rewards and well-being, recruitment, labor relations, colleague servicing, and more. CEG’s vision is to provide the best colleague experience every day to fuel growth, and they are committed to ensuring all of Team Amex has the resources and support they need to be and deliver their best.

As a Senior Product Designer within our Colleague Experience Group, you will shape the employee experience across HR products and digital services that support colleagues throughout their journey (from onboarding and learning to career growth and employee support).

Working closely with Product, Business, Engineering, and Operations teams, you will apply user-centered design, research, and service design practices to create intuitive, efficient, and scalable experiences. You will help translate complex business processes into seamless digital solutions while identifying opportunities to leverage AI, automation, and intelligent guidance to improve how work gets done.

Responsibilities

Experience Design & Discovery

  • Lead discovery, user research, and usability testing to understand colleague needs, pain points, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Design end-to-end employee experiences through journey mapping, workflows, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and service design artifacts.

  • Create intuitive content, guidance, and support experiences that simplify complex processes and help colleagues complete tasks successfully.

  • Design and optimize conversational, AI-enabled, and self-service experiences, including guidance patterns, workflows, and support interactions.

  • Use user feedback, behavioral insights, analytics, and operational data to identify opportunities and translate them into scalable digital solutions.

Product & Solution Development

  • Partner with Product Managers, Engineers, HR stakeholders, and Operations teams to define requirements and deliver user-centered solutions.

  • Influence product strategy and prioritization by representing the colleague perspective throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Identify opportunities to improve self-service, streamline processes, and increase adoption through thoughtful experience design.

  • Contribute to the design of AI-enabled, guided, and automated experiences that improve efficiency and reduce friction.

  • Balance user needs, business goals, and enterprise SaaS platform constraints to deliver effective experiences.

  • Recommend custom solutions, integrations, AI, or automation when platform-native capabilities are insufficient.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Serve as a trusted UX partner within cross-functional teams, advocating for human-centered design principles and best practices.

  • Facilitate workshops, stakeholder discussions, and collaborative design sessions.

  • Help establish consistent experience patterns, standards, and approaches across the HR technology ecosystem.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience in UX Design, UX Research, Product Design, Service Design, or related disciplines.

  • Experience designing employee, HR, workforce, or enterprise digital experiences.

  • Strong understanding of user-centered design, interaction design, service design, and UX research methodologies.

  • Experience conducting research and translating insights into actionable design solutions.

  • Experience creating journey maps, workflows, wireframes, prototypes, and experience concepts.

  • Working knowledge of Agile delivery practices and tools such as Jira and Confluence.

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Proficiency with Figma, Mural, and related design and collaboration tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with enterprise HR platforms such as Oracle HCM, ServiceNow, or similar solutions.
  • Experience designing AI-enabled, conversational, or intelligent workflow experiences.
  • Familiarity with information architecture, knowledge management, self-service, or guidance systems.

  • Experience working within complex, matrixed enterprise environments.
